A multi-billion dollar manufacturer with family ownership is looking to hire a Government Relations and Advocacy Manager to build and manage relationships with legislators on the local, state, and federal level, analyze policies and research legislative changes impacting the business, collaborate with internal stakeholders, and represent the organization among government agencies and committees. Job Purpose/Summary
The Government Relations & Advocacy Manager will be responsible for developing and executing strategies to influence public policy and regulatory decisions that impact the manufacturing industry. This role involves building and maintaining relationships with government officials, industry associations, and other stakeholders to advocate for the company's interests. They will interact with key stakeholders in the company to understand issues related to our business. In addition, they will interface with industry organizations and attend key meetings. Their role will include writing letters and communication messaging to the key stakeholders.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Advocacy : Represent the interests of the organization to government officials, advocating for policies that support the organization's goals. Interact with lobbying firms to support and influence legislation and regulatory decisions.
- Policy Analysis : Evaluating existing and proposed policies to understand their impact on the organization and developing strategies to address them.
- Stakeholder Engagement : Building relationships with key stakeholders, including government officials and staff, industry groups, and other organizations, to support advocacy efforts.
- Communication : Crafting messages and campaigns to effectively convey the organization's position on various issues to government officials and the public.
- Enhance Reputation : Building a positive image and credibility with government officials and the public.
- Mitigate Risks : Addressing potential regulatory or legislative threats that could negatively impact the organization.
Experience & Qualifications
Required:
- Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in government relations, policy, or advocacy, preferably within the manufacturing industry.
- Proven track record of successful relations with government officials
Preferred:
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to effectively articulate complex ideas and influence others.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams
Education/Certification
- Undergraduate degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Law, or a related field
- Strong understanding of legislative and regulatory processes.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to analyze problems and strategize solutions
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Exceptional communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills
- Ability to inspire, energize, develop, and build rapport at all levels within an organization
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and, at times, stressful environment with high-pressure situations that require clear and sound decisions/actions
- A high standard in work quality and ability to follow through is necessary
- Excellent written communication skills with an effective presentation style for all levels of stakeholders
- Strong critical thinking and critical thinking skills with the ability to assess business issues
- Proven ability to work in an ambiguous environment and collaborate across multiple areas to achieve a common business objective

Work Schedule
- Core working hours Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; however, must be available to work at varied times (including evenings and weekends) as required to accomplish the goals and deliverables of their exempt position
Working conditions
- Duties/responsibilities are primarily conducted onsite in an office environment that is climate controlled, well-lit, and ventilated
- Occasional visits to Plant environment that includes heat, cold, fumes, odors, dust, and loud conditions
