About The Role

Hansestadt Buxtehude GIS Specialist / Geospatial Data Management Officer (m/f/d)

Location: Buxtehude

Responsibilities: Create maps, databases, and WebGIS applications using ArcGIS and QGIS, as well as development of land-use plans (Bebauungspläne) using AutoCAD and WS LandCad for urban planning and landscape architecture studies and projects. Maintain existing geodatabases, develop new datasets, and convert geospatial data for interoperability with INSPIRE and XPlanung standards. Conceptualize, implement, and continuously enhance the GIS infrastructure of the City Planning Department toward a digital twin, in collaboration with other geospatial units (e.g., Lower Saxony’s Landesamt für Geoinformation, local district offices). Analyze geospatial data, model spatial datasets, and perform database queries. Administer GIS software (currently QGIS, ArcGIS, AutoCAD, WS LandCad) in coordination with central IT and other departments using GIS tools. Adapt GIS applications to technological advancements such as digital twins and 3D modeling, and introduce new specialized applications as needed. Prepare and provide geospatial data and cartographic products to third parties (citizens, municipalities, public authorities), including GIS coordination and interface management for the district-wide WebGIS system.

Qualifications: Completed university degree in Geoinformatics or a comparable program with in-depth expertise in geospatial technologies. Proven professional experience in GIS application development and geospatial data management. Solid knowledge in digital twins, geospatial infrastructures, urban geospatial platforms, and AutoCAD applications. Familiarity with geospatial standards, open-source GIS tools (e.g., GeoServer, QGIS). Strong understanding of interdisciplinary planning contexts, technical aptitude, and experience with standard project management methodologies. Native or near-native proficiency in German (CEFR C2), with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
