Overview

Geotechnical Engineer, Division of Environmental Programs, Design & Construction, NYS Office of General Services (OGS). LiRo-Hill, a top A/E firm, seeks an experienced engineer.

Responsibilities

  • Provide subject matter expert technical review for consultant projects, including reports, contract plans, and specifications for conventional geotechnical, dam, and flood control projects.
  • Review consultant‑led design work on dam projects.
  • Perform safety inspections and hazard classification screenings; conduct hazard classification assessments and engineering assessments.
  • Work as a member of the project design team, both in-house and consultant‑led, to develop construction‑level documents for conventional geotechnical and dam projects.
  • Prepare, coordinate, and oversee geotechnical field exploration programs for in‑house design projects.
  • Review subsurface exploration logs and laboratory geotechnical testing results.
  • Prepare and/or review design calculations for allowable soil bearing capacity, total and differential settlements, geotechnical capacity of deep foundation systems, excavation support systems, site retaining walls, subgrade modulus for slabs‑on‑grade, slope stability, and pavement design.
  • Develop geotechnical engineering technical memorandums, evaluations, and reports presenting design and construction recommendations for foundations, floor slabs, site development, site retaining walls, below‑grade walls, groundwater control, excavation support, and pavement.
  • Perform dam safety inspections and review existing conditions of earthen embankments and concrete gravity structures to verify conformance with NYSDEC dam safety regulations and guidelines.
  • Perform site visits to provide technical expertise during construction; additional visits may be required for emergency conditions.
  • Provide technical assistance to other divisions within OGS D&C.
  • Perform other duties as assigned; some travel is required.
  • Support compliance with New York State licensing requirements and obtain a Professional Engineering License within six months, if not currently held.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, geology, or related field.
  • Master’s degree in civil engineering is a plus.
  • Current Professional Engineering License in State of New York or ability to obtain licensure within six months.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in geotechnical engineering; experience with dams and water resources is a plus.
  • Dam engineering specific experience preferred.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing contract drawings and technical specifications.
  • Basic technical writing proficiency.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • AutoCAD proficiency is a plus.
  • Proficiency in geotechnical software such as GEOSTUDIO, RocSlide, and LPILE.
  • Experience with water resources software such as HEC‑RAS and HEC‑HMS is a plus.

Compensation

Min: $90,000 per year

Max: $105,000 per year

The stated range reflects the salary that the firm believes it can offer for this position.
