General Construction Engineer

The Buildings & Infrastructure Group (B&I Group) within the Technical and Infrastructure Division is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and development of the site and technical infrastructure of the ESRF.

As part of the Construction team, you will participate in the modernisation, renovation and ESRF upgrade projects as well as the adaptation of accessibility issues and construction of new infrastructures (construction of beamlines, laboratories, workshops, technical premises etc.). As a general construction engineer, you will join a dynamic team and will be in charge of the following:

• Provide expertise and coordinate civil engineering and construction projects throughout all phases including design, call for tenders and commissioning.
• In collaboration with other units and ESRF divisions, you will define project requirements, key milestones, budget allocations and project schedules.
• Draft the corresponding technical specifications and Calls for Tender follow-up.
• Manage and coordinate contracts for building and infrastructure work.
• Oversee and coordinate all project work packages, including technical studies, the schedule management, the budget follow-up, the construction works, and the commissioning during both the design and execution phases.
• Supervise, organise and monitor on‑site construction activities to ensure compliance with project objectives, quality standards, safety requirements, and timelines.

Expected profile

The successful candidate should be a Construction or Civil Engineer with significant experience in building and civil engineering projects.

• A higher university degree (Master’s or equivalent 300 ECTS diploma) in the Civil Engineering or the Construction Engineering field.
• Chartered Engineer status in building construction and/or participation in large scale project installation.
• A minimum of two years of relevant professional experience in technical design, contract management and/or construction site supervision.
• Experience in project management, including planning, scheduling and coordination of project activities.
• Knowledge in the following areas: construction and civil works, mechanical engineering, electrical distribution systems, fluid and ventilation network and work safety requirements.
• Experience of tendering exercises (writing specifications and cost projections).
• Knowledge of AUTOCAD is considered an asset.
• Thorough knowledge of European and French standards and regulations related to construction is mandatory.

• Fluent in written and spoken French (minimum required level: C1).

Working conditions

Permanent contract.

The salary will be calculated on the basis of relevant qualifications and professional experience.
