The Opportunity

A global investment bank is seeking to appoint a senior Institutional FX Sales professional to lead the development and expansion of its foreign exchange franchise across continental Europe.

This is a significant business-building opportunity within an established Global Markets platform. The successful candidate will take ownership of developing the bank's institutional FX business across key European markets, leveraging existing institutional relationships while originating new clients and generating incremental trading revenues.

The bank has an established Fixed Income presence in Paris and an extensive institutional client network across Europe. However, its FX penetration across these relationships remains relatively limited, presenting a significant opportunity for an experienced salesperson to develop a meaningful and sustainable franchise.

The position offers considerable autonomy, direct access to senior management and the opportunity to influence the future direction of the European FX business.

Key Responsibilities

Business Development & Franchise Growth

  • Lead the development of the institutional FX franchise across continental Europe, with particular emphasis on France, Benelux, Germany and the Nordic markets.
  • Identify, originate and develop new institutional client relationships.
  • Leverage existing relationships across the bank's Fixed Income and broader Global Markets businesses to generate incremental FX revenues.
  • Develop a sustainable portfolio of institutional clients, combining new business origination with the expansion of existing relationships.
  • Identify opportunities to increase the bank's share of institutional FX hedging and execution flows.
  • Develop and execute a commercial strategy for expanding the bank's presence across its target European markets.
  • Work with senior management to identify potential opportunities for further product and geographic expansion.

Institutional Client Coverage

  • Assume responsibility for managing and developing relationships with institutional investors, including asset managers, pension funds, central banks, official institutions and other financial institutions.
  • Provide clients with FX execution and hedging solutions tailored to their investment and risk-management requirements.
  • Maintain responsibility for day-to-day client coverage, pricing requests and trade execution.
  • Build relationships with key decision-makers, including portfolio managers, treasury professionals and execution desks.
  • Develop a detailed understanding of client trading requirements, investment strategies and execution preferences.
  • Convert institutional relationships into recurring, commercially sustainable trading activity.

FX Product Coverage & Execution

  • Originate and execute client business across G10 FX products, with particular emphasis on FX swaps, forwards and institutional hedging flows.
  • Work closely with FX trading desks to deliver competitive pricing and execution.
  • Promote the bank's electronic FX capabilities and support increased client adoption of electronic execution channels.
  • Identify opportunities to expand client activity across the existing FX product offering.
  • Provide market intelligence and client feedback to trading, product and senior management teams.
  • Contribute to the development of additional FX capabilities where supported by client demand and commercial opportunities.

Internal Collaboration

  • Work closely with the established Fixed Income sales team in Paris to identify cross-selling opportunities.
  • Coordinate with FX trading and sales teams in London and other international financial centres.
  • Develop strong relationships with internal credit, risk, compliance and onboarding teams to facilitate new business.
  • Collaborate with senior management on the strategic development of the European FX franchise.
  • Take ownership of the day-to-day commercial management of the business while operating within the bank's established risk and regulatory framework.

Candidate Requirements

  • Established institutional FX sales experience within an investment bank or Global Markets environment.
  • Strong institutional client relationships across France, Benelux, Germany and/or the Nordics.
  • Demonstrable track record of originating new business and generating trading revenues.
  • Strong knowledge of G10 FX products, particularly swaps, forwards and institutional hedging.
  • Good understanding of electronic FX (eFX) distribution and execution.
  • Entrepreneurial, commercially driven approach with the ability to develop a franchise independently.
  • Strong relationship-management skills and the ability to work effectively with trading desks and wider Global Markets teams.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be an established institutional FX salesperson with strong European client relationships and a demonstrated ability to originate and develop profitable trading business.

They will combine technical knowledge of G10 FX markets with the commercial initiative required to build a franchise in an environment where significant opportunities exist but business must be actively developed.

The position will particularly appeal to an experienced salesperson seeking greater autonomy, direct ownership of client relationships and the opportunity to make a measurable contribution to the growth of an international investment bank's European markets business.
