People joining Alan are surprised and delighted by our innovative working method. We have a set of cultural values that guide our approach to work. The following drive us:
- Mission is the Boss : long-term thinking, mission above all else
- Member & customer-led : obsessed with solving problems and delighting users

- Fight for simplicity : high-impact processes, smart frugality
The Engineering team builds the infrastructure, interfaces, and applications to provide first-class service to our members, health professionals, and ourselves. We move fast with ownership and tackle big problems. Our stack includes Python/Flask, React, React Native, and PostgreSQL. Our process emphasizes product decisions made by those who build them. We also enable global-first product development with a strategy to unify country-specific codebases into global, configurable modules.
In Alan's early expansion we created separate codebases for each country. In 2024 we merged to global modules to enable features across markets, guided by our 2025 technical strategy. The Global Architecture team leads this transformation.
Your mission
- Design Cross-Cutting Modules : transform country-specific implementations into global components that become building blocks for other teams to build global features
- Remove Technical Blockers for Product Teams : tackle blockers that cut across domains and eliminate team-specific workarounds
- Orchestrate Data Transformations : harmonize different countries' data models without losing local flexibility; consolidate data into unified schemas
- Build and Own What You Create : own the entire lifecycle of solutions—from design through maintenance; we build, deploy, and maintain what we create
Why this role matters
- Focus on High-Impact, Cross-Domain Solutions : work on blockers that span multiple business domains with broad impact
- Enable Teams, Don’t Replace Them : remove obstacles that prevent teams from building global-first solutions
- Learn and Share Globalization Patterns : develop expertise in globalization patterns and share learnings with other teams
What we’re looking for
- You write code and maintain what you build; there is no architect in an ivory tower at Alan
- You can navigate complex systems spanning multiple domains and technical boundaries
- Experience with diverse architectural patterns and the ability to articulate trade-offs
- You can spot technical obstacles that block multiple teams and design ways to remove them
Is it you we’re looking for?
We’re seeking problem-solving engineers with 5+ years of experience who enjoy simplifying complex business problems. You’ll tackle high-impact projects with many engineers, design efficient systems and engineering practices to align with multiple teams, mentor other engineers, and contribute to hiring and hiring processes.
Nice-to-have qualities include strong object-oriented programming skills (Python, Java, C#) and web technologies (modern JavaScript). You can work in Python/JavaScript and are passionate about building products, self-starting, entrepreneurial, humble, collaborative, and fluent in English. French is not required.
Note: we aim to hire within the D-F level range. If you don’t check every box, we’d still love to hear from you. We encourage applicants from diverse backgrounds to apply. This is a guide, not a checklist.
