Full-Stack & Web Engineer - Internship
Job Description: Full-Stack Software & Web Engineer - Internship
Company: Initiativ
Position: Full-Stack Software & Web Engineer
Reports to: Founders
Duration: 6 months
Smarter markets for modern trading. Initiativ is building a modern commodities exchange for physical spot & derivatives, starting with the €1trn market of emissions rights instruments (EUAs). The exchange is purpose-built to replace legacy models unchanged since 2005, enabling better price discovery access and trading for corporate end-users currently routed through brokers, while lowering fees, optimizing collateral, and diversifying traded instruments for institutional traders. We are looking for a full‑stack engineer able to thrive in a demanding, fast‑paced environment, to contribute end‑to‑end, from backend to web interface, to the design and development of our trading systems as we scale from Seed to Series A.
Key Responsibilities
- Full-stack development: contribute to Rust/TypeScript middlewares (exchange platform, PostgreSQL schemas and queries, clean and tested code) and to the React/TypeScript web interface built from Figma mockups, with Storybook components, data via TanStack, and REST/WebSocket APIs
- Infrastructure & performance: help build and maintain low‑latency distributed systems, optimize performance and run benchmarks, contribute to the reliability and scalability of the platform
- Learning & exploration: deepen your full‑stack skills in a real, demanding environment, explore blockchain integrations and on‑chain components, progressively take ownership of specific modules or services
- AI at the core: AI is used heavily across the whole company, and in tech we engineer systems to 10x the entire organization; you’ll dive deep into the design and implementation of these cutting‑edge solutions and the AI‑engineering good practices that enable the team to reach ambitious goals
Profile Sought
- Student in an engineering school, computer science program, or university (gap year or end‑of‑studies internship)
- Solid foundations in full‑stack web development (back‑end + front‑end: React, TypeScript, Storybook, TanStack, REST/WebSockets, Figma), or a strong desire to learn them
- Curiosity about blockchain technology, decentralized systems, financial markets, and trading platforms
- Professional English required; autonomous and curious
- A plus: eagerness to learn Rust and AI engineering (no prior experience required, but motivation is essential)
What We Offer
- Work directly with the founders and cross‑functional teams (Product, Risk, Sales)
- Gain rare full‑stack experience in a regulated fintech (Rust, low latency), building the technology behind a modern exchange
- Paris 2e offices, hybrid‑work under consideration
Context
- Regulatory context: MTF platform under AMF authorization (in progress). Professional clients only (MiFID Il). Markets: EUA / C11 (EU ETS), expanding to broader commodities
- Technical infrastructure: Fully on‑chain matching engine and back office with T+0 settlement.
