Founding Engineer Toore
Overview
Founding Engineer at Toore. Location: Paris. Contract: Permanent (CDI). Salary: €75–100K gross + BSPCE. Reports to CTO. Start date: ASAP.
Toore is building the decision infrastructure for industrial remanufacturing. We are early-stage, with live commercial engagements across automotive, machinery, and IT distribution. This is a net-new role designed to own delivery of core features end to end to accelerate product velocity.
Responsibilities
Ship core product features from specification to production, owning the outcome across data collection, business intelligence, and action layers that enable industrials to run operations, sales, and diversification on Toore.
Grow the shared ontology powering every client, while keeping per-client surfaces fast to build — apply agentic AI at scale with minimal slop.
Defend service levels: >90% test coverage, >99% CI/CD success, no N+1 queries in production, and no data loss or leakage between clients.
Turn fuzzy client or founder needs into shipped software with minimal back-and-forth; write specs and technical scoping as you go; build flexible, future-proof component blocks.
Pay down technical debt deliberately (tests, linter rules, or architectural improvements) to prevent reintroduction of bad patterns.
On a day-to-day basis: pick a feature from the roadmap, scope in Notion, open PR, conduct Greptile code reviews, QA on the PR-specific review app, debug client-flagged issues, ship fixes, and add quality guardrails.
Collaborate with the CTO/peers to align on direction, document decisions, and share learnings to raise the team’s collective intelligence.
What you’ll work with
Direct manager: Mathieu (CTO) — align on direction and architecture; you own execution.
Closest collaborator: Damien (Front/Product Engineer) — you own backend and shared ontology; he owns per-client frontend surfaces.
Cross-functional: Thibault (CEO) and the client-facing team (Forward Deployed Strategist) — you’ll hear customer problems close to source.
What success looks like
2 days: full stack running end-to-end locally and first PR shipped to production.
60 days: you own a meaningful slice of the product independently; you deepen expertise in areas like Postgres/SQL, infra, data engineering, persistent workflows, machine learning, or agentic tooling; you solve a client-facing problem end-to-end.
6 months: you act as a peer to the CTO on technical direction and help scale the system, enabling the tech team to move faster.
Your profile
Must-haves
Experience shipping production software with a strong backend focus (Python, FastAPI, SQLAlchemy) and solid frontend experience (React/TypeScript) from our component library.
Product-engineer mindset: able to scope fuzzy client problems and decide what to build, not just execute a handed-down spec.
High quality bar: testing, avoidance of N+1, clean migrations, and code review-ready quality.
Clear communication in English (specs, decision records, scoping).
Years of experience: 6+ years building/shipping production software (primarily backend); 3+ years in a B2B SaaS/product-led environment; experience in an early-stage startup is a plus.
Nice-to-haves
Deep expertise in areas such as Postgres/SQL, infrastructure (GCP, Kubernetes), data engineering, async processing (Celery, Temporal), agentic workflows (pydantic-ai/Logfire), or data science (evaluation, monitoring).
French language proficiency is helpful; all artifacts are in English.
What we’re looking for
Willingness to engage with agentic AI and the circular/refurbishment industry to deliver practical client value.
Comfort with ambiguity, small teams, and high ownership typical of early-stage startups.
Our hiring process
Initial deep-dive interview with the CTO (60 min).
Use case/assessment with Tech team (Damien + Mathieu) (60–90 min).
Culture-fit interview with the CEO (45 min).
Reference calls with the CTO (2 references).
Offer stage with the CTO — written within 48 hours of decision.
We provide written feedback at each stage and aims for a GO/NO GO within 4 business days per stage, final decision within 4 weeks of the first call.
A word to our candidates: we are small by design; this role carries significant ownership and directly shapes the product and client impact. We’ll be transparent throughout the process.
How to apply: instructions provided in the application materials.
