Your role
The Foodservice Equipment & Kitchen Design Engineer is responsible for the complete integration of foodservice equipment into Newrest's construction projects, from concept design through commissioning. The role combines engineering, project management and technical coordination to ensure that kitchen equipment is properly designed, specified, procured, installed and commissioned. The position requires close collaboration with architects, engineers, contractors, equipment manufacturers and Newrest operational teams worldwide.
Key Responsibilities
- Design functional kitchen layouts according to operational requirements.
- Develop production flow concepts to maximise efficiency and ergonomics.
- Define equipment specifications for production kitchens, dishwashing areas and support spaces.
- Prepare equipment layouts and technical schedules.
- Coordinate equipment integration into architectural and engineering drawings.
- Review and validate equipment shop drawings.
- Ensure compliance with hygiene regulations, HACCP principles and local standards.
- Coordinate all technical interfaces between foodservice equipment and building systems, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, refrigeration, structural works, architectural finishes, fire protection and Building Management Systems (BMS).
- Ensure all utilities are properly sized and coordinated before construction begins.
- Prepare technical specifications for international tenders.
- Support supplier selection and technical evaluations.
- Review technical proposals.
- Participate in equipment standardisation across Newrest facilities.
- Work closely with Procurement to optimise technical performance and total cost of ownership.
- Maintain relationships with international equipment manufacturers.
- Review fabrication drawings.
- Coordinate manufacturers during production.
- Monitor manufacturing progress.
- Supervise equipment installation.
- Coordinate with contractors during construction.
- Resolve technical issues on site.
- Monitor quality, budget and schedule.
- Organise Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) when required.
- Coordinate Site Acceptance Tests (SAT).
- Verify equipment functionality and performance.
- Support operational teams during commissioning.
- Prepare punch lists and ensure project close‑out.
- Develop Newrest global foodservice standards.
- Standardise equipment specifications across countries.
- Identify innovative technologies and best practices.
- Capture lessons learned from completed projects.
- Continuously improve project quality, installation efficiency and lifecycle costs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Foodservice Engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in commercial kitchen design, foodservice engineering or industrial catering projects.
- Experience in large‑scale production kitchens, airline catering facilities, food manufacturing or hospitality projects.
- Experience working on multidisciplinary construction projects.
- International project experience highly desirable.
- English – Professional proficiency (mandatory); French – Professional proficiency (preferred); Spanish – Considered an advantage.
