Field Service Technician II
Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Field Service Technician II to join a leading wireless communications organization in Chantilly, VA . This role is 100% onsite/local field-based and will support the installation, troubleshooting, programming, repair, and maintenance of wireless communication systems for commercial and public-sector customers. The Field Service Technician II will work independently in the field, troubleshoot complex radio and communications equipment, and serve as a technical resource for customers.
Responsibilities of the Field Service Technician II include:
- Install, troubleshoot, repair, program, and maintain two-way radio and wireless communications systems
- Create and modify mid-level radio programming codeplugs, including 12+ channels, trunking, and multiple zones
- Support UHF/VHF and 800/900 MHz radio systems, dispatch consoles, repeaters, base stations, and related equipment
- Troubleshoot and service BDA/DAS systems, wireless broadband equipment, microwave systems, and other communications infrastructure
- Diagnose equipment using spectrum analyzers, system analyzers, watt meters, TDRs/FDRs, multimeters, and other electronic test equipment
- Interpret schematics, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation
- Troubleshoot communications systems involving RF, digital, audio, networking, and electronic components
- Apply knowledge of TCP/IP, NIC programming, battery backup systems, multicouplers, and duplexers
- Recommend appropriate communications equipment and hardware based on customer requirements
- Provide onsite customer support and communicate technical issues and solutions effectively
- Support regional projects, including occasional overnight travel and on-call responsibilities
Qualifications of the Field Service Technician II include:
- 3+ years of experience supporting, installing, troubleshooting, repairing, or programming two-way radio or wireless communications systems
- Hands-on experience with radio equipment from manufacturers such as Motorola, Kenwood, ICOM, Vertex, Harris, or EF Johnson
- Strong understanding of two-way radio theory, RF propagation, and wireless communications systems
- Experience with base stations, repeaters, antennas, duplexers, and multicouplers
- Experience operating electronic/RF test equipment
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, blueprints, and technical diagrams
- Experience with BDA/DAS systems is highly desirable
- Motorola, ETA, NICET, CET, OSHA, or other industry certifications are highly desirable
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to support regional/overnight travel and on-call requirements as needed
- Candidates without all required certifications may be considered with the expectation that applicable certifications will be obtained within 6 months of employment
Compensation for the Field Service Technician II includes:
- Hourly Rate: $30.00–$37.00/hour, depending on experience
