Field Service Engineer - Metrology
We are partnering with a global manufacturer of advanced scientific instrumentation to recruit a Field Service Engineer to support customers across France and occasionally elsewhere in Europe.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a close-knit technical team supporting cutting-edge metrology and materials characterisation systems used by leading research institutes, universities and industrial organisations.
Following an initial training period, you will become the technical expert responsible for installing, maintaining and troubleshooting sophisticated scientific instruments directly at customer sites. You'll work with a wide variety of technologies, helping customers maximise system performance while building long-term relationships based on technical expertise and trust.
This is a highly autonomous role where no two days are the same. Around 80% of your time will be spent visiting customers throughout France, while the remaining time will be dedicated to technical collaboration, training and knowledge sharing with colleagues. During your onboarding, you'll spend significant time in the office working alongside experienced engineers and application specialists to develop your technical expertise.
We're looking for someone who enjoys solving technical problems in the field and who is motivated by long-term career development within a global organisation.
To be successful, you will ideally have:
- A technical qualification ranging from BTS to Engineering degree, or equivalent experience.
- Hands-on experience servicing, maintaining or troubleshooting complex electromechanical equipment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and an analytical approach to fault finding.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to train and support customers.
- A good level of English for technical documentation and collaboration within an international environment.
- Native or fluent French.
- A full driving licence and a genuine willingness to travel extensively.
Experience with scientific instrumentation, materials science, microscopy, metrology or surface characterisation would be a strong advantage. However, we also welcome candidates from other precision engineering environments who are eager to learn new technologies and develop within scientific instrumentation.
Above all, we're looking for someone who is curious, collaborative and committed to building a long-term career in Field Service. This role will suit someone who enjoys working independently while remaining closely connected to their local team, ideally based in either Paris or Grenoble but open to other locations.
The position offers a competitive salary depending on experience (typically €40,000 to €52,000), a company car, annual performance bonus, comprehensive tools and equipment, and the opportunity to work with some of the most advanced scientific technologies available today.
