Field Service Engineer II - Power Systems (Travel 50-60%)

Job SummaryThe Field Engineer II is responsible for performing diagnostic tests, data analysis and report writing for the Field Services team. This position includes project execution, including preparing equipment, troubleshooting on site, and equipment logistics. The duties involve project management, direct interaction with clients and visiting customers in the electric power industry including utilities, generation plants, and industrial sites. This role will be based in our Marlborough, MA office reporting to the Field Services Manager.Essential Job Functions
- Perform on-site field tests at client sites including, but not limited to, electric power generating stations, substations, petrochemical, pulp, paper, mining, industrial, and commercial facilities.
- Conduct routine and special testing of power and distribution transformers, voltage regulators, bushings and circuit breakers from different manufacturers (ABB, Siemens, Waukesha, SMIT and others).
- Perform routine and special tests such as partial discharge (offline and online), EMI, dissipation factor, voltage withstand, on power transformers, cables, and generators.
- Provide engineering support and written reports on the interpretation of measured data.
- Support inventory and equipment planning to meet job and project requirements.
- Related duties as assigned by Field Services Manager
- Domestic and International travel required: Approximately 50%-60%. This level can vary due to customer demand.
- Two years of experience working in substation, power plants, nuclear facilities, or industrial power systems
- Two years of experience operating, and trouble-shooting test equipment used for electrical apparatus tests
- Two years field testing experience with power equipment such as transformers, generators, motors, and circuit breakers, particularly performing the following: Power Factor and Capacitance, SFRA, and other specialized tests
- Two years of experience evaluating electrical test data from power apparatus for detailed apparatus condition assessment
- Two years of experience producing customer reports covering testing methodology and data analysis
- Two years of experience providing customer technical support (verbal and written)
- Two years of experience with domestic and international travel
- Driver’s License required
- Experience with high voltage test equipment (resonant test systems)
- Experience with Partial Discharge equipment
- Certified Infrared thermographer
- OSHA training
- NFPA 70 training
- Familiarity with Partial Discharge measurement
- Familiarity with radio frequency signals and measurements
- Attention to detail
- Services orientation
- Knowledge of power equipment (transformers, generators, cables, motors)
- Ability to travel 50%-60% of the time, both domestically and internationally
- Ability to work independently
