A leading European space technology company is looking for an FPGA Firmware Engineer to join its engineering team developing advanced embedded electronic systems for next-generation space applications.

This is an excellent opportunity to work on cutting‑edge hardware and firmware for high-performance aerospace systems within a collaborative, multidisciplinary engineering environment.

The Role

You’ll be responsible for designing, developing and validating FPGA firmware for advanced embedded systems used in demanding space applications. Working closely with hardware, systems and software engineers, you’ll contribute throughout the full firmware development lifecycle, from design through testing and integration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement FPGA firmware using VHDL.
  • Develop embedded software for microcontroller-based systems.
  • Collaborate with electronics, systems and software engineering teams.
  • Perform simulation, verification, testing and debugging of firmware.
  • Develop Python scripts for test automation where required.
  • Produce and maintain technical documentation.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and R&D initiatives.

Requirements

  • Degree in Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering or a related discipline.
  • 2–5 years' experience developing FPGA firmware for embedded systems.
  • Strong experience with:
  • VHDL
  • C programming
  • FPGA development tools (e.g. Xilinx or Microchip)
  • Experience with firmware testing, debugging and simulation.
  • Understanding of high‑reliability embedded design principles.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Strong documentation and communication skills.
  • Master's degree in Electronic Engineering or related field.
  • Experience with Microchip FPGA toolchains.
  • Knowledge of electro‑optical or imaging systems.
  • Understanding of radiation effects on electronics.
  • Experience with environmental or qualification testing.
  • Familiarity with PLM tools such as Siemens Teamcenter.
