Environmental Technician – Remediation Team
We are seeking an Environmental Technician to support remedial operations, maintenance, and monitoring projects at client facilities and field sites in Long Island, NY. The role involves operating groundwater treatment systems, soil vapor extraction systems, sub-slab depressurization systems, and conducting media sampling.
Responsibilities
- Operate various remediation systems, including soil vapor extraction systems, sub-slab depressurization systems (active and passive), and groundwater pump-and-treat systems utilizing granular activated carbon, zeolite, particle filtration, and air stripping with off-gas treatment.
- Conduct routine fieldwork and sampling of groundwater, soil, vapor, surface water, sediment, and waste.
- Use field tablets and computers to track, record, and access environmental data.
- Pass operator exam(s) to demonstrate understanding of system operations and maintenance.
- Remotely monitor system performance during off‑site hours, including at least one evening check and one check per weekend day.
- Respond to alarm conditions outside of standard working hours.
- Perform operation and maintenance tasks and inspections of remediation systems covering chlorinated volatile organic compounds, impacted vapor, soil, and groundwater.
- Document all field activities and notes.
- Perform subcontractor oversight and communicate effectively with the project team.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety standards and work within defined scopes, schedules, and budgets while producing quality work.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent with at least 2 years of experience in operations, maintenance, and monitoring (OMM) of treatment systems, including automation and controls.
- Ability to travel to various client sites across Long Island, NY to conduct fieldwork, sampling, operations, maintenance, and inspections.
- U.S. citizenship required due to project nature.
- 40‑hour OSHA HAZWOPER training and current 8‑hour refresher.
- Basic computer skills in MS Word and MS Excel and familiarity with field tablets.
- Physical ability to work outdoors in uneven terrain and variable conditions, lift 40–50 pounds, and use hand tools; must wear and maintain personal protective equipment (safety glasses, gloves, safety shoes/boots, hard hat, face shield, hearing protection).
- Associate’s Degree or trade certification (preferred).
- Three years of experience in a similar capacity (preferred).
- Aptitude for operating and maintaining mechanical and electrical equipment.
- Experience sampling various media (groundwater, soil, vapor).
- First Aid/CPR training.
- Strong work ethic, problem‑solving skills, and professional responsibility.
- Proficient technical writing skills and oral communication in project reviews.
- Ability to pass a pre‑employment substance‑abuse test.
- Secure client site access: must pass client background, medical and drug screening requirements.
