TRC is seeking a full‐time, entry‐level Environmental Technician / Scientist in the Air Measurements Practice of our Austin, TX office to assist with the performance of air emissions testing projects at various industrial facilities. Our projects help industry achieve environmental compliance while maintaining productivity. Responsibilities

Projects involve substantial overnight travel, generally within the United States, including Guam and Hawaii. The field testing typically lasts 1 to 5 days, with the team usually home on weekends, though some projects may require weekend work or travel. The number of people in the field and days varies with each project and may change week to week. Expect ~75% of weeks to involve field work with overnight stays.

During testing, you will record data, operate equipment, or work in the trailer to recover samples and perform analysis. When not in the field, duties include equipment calibrations/repairs, prep and packing for future projects, data reduction and processing, report writing, lab work, and similar tasks.

You will become proficient in various USEPA sampling methods and develop knowledge about many types of industrial processes, receiving coaching and on‑the‑job training from experienced colleagues. Career paths include project management and business development or technical work with advanced monitoring and analytical equipment.

Qualifications

• Must be able to comfortably lift and carry 50 pounds.
• Testing projects may involve moving equipment to elevated test locations such as an exhaust stack platform or a rooftop accessed by elevator, stairs, or ladder.
• Must be able to work comfortably outdoors in all seasons.
• Strong written and oral communication skills and moderate computer skills.
• A solution‑oriented, positive attitude.
• Successful completion of a background check and drug test (including marijuana) prior to employment or within five working days from hire date; participation in TRC random drug testing program is mandatory.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license and successful pre‑employment motor vehicle records check; maintain valid DOT driver status (not a CDL).
• Completion of all required annual safety training.
• A college degree is required. A background in science or engineering is preferred, though the willingness to learn is more important.
• A passion for travel, outdoor work, and an interest in industrial processes.

Salary Ranges

• $24–27: 0–1 year source testing experience
• $27–30: 1–3 years source testing experience
• $30–35: 3+ years source testing experience

Compensation

In accordance with local law, compensation will vary based on experience, education, skill level, and geographic location.
