Opportunity

Stantec is looking for a driven Environmental Scientist to lead impactful work across the Gulf region. The role provides permitting strategy, environmental assessment, and application preparation, as well as technical support for projects requiring municipal, provincial/state, and federal environmental approvals and licenses.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support projects and key client relationships across natural gas pipelines, LNG facilities, solar facilities, residential and commercial development, mitigation/conservation banking, water resources infrastructure, and transportation.
  • Lead teams that collect and report on wetland delineations, threatened and endangered species habitat characterizations, land use mapping and vegetation cover classification, and other natural resource-focused surveys.
  • Coordinate agency communications, oversee technical assessments, and guide project teams through successful execution.
  • Assist with preparing work plans, assembling project teams, delegating tasks, and ensuring compliance with scope and timely completion of tasks.
  • Establish and maintain quality assurance plans and safety plans for assigned projects.
  • Provide mentorship to early career staff, with potential opportunities for direct supervision.

Capabilities and Credentials

  • Thorough understanding of technical environmental impact analysis methods and sound knowledge of NEPA requirements and related regulations (Section 401, 402, and 404 of the Clean Water Act).
  • Solid knowledge of environmental compliance requirements for public and private infrastructure projects (transportation, renewable energy, oil & gas).
  • Working knowledge of agencies including the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Bureau of Land Management, US Army Corps of Engineers, US Fish and Wildlife Service, relevant state agencies, FERC, FHWA, and FAA.
  • Demonstrated skill in QA/QC practices and willingness to manage multiple projects.
  • Ability to motivate self and others, overcome obstacles, and achieve goals.
  • Collaborative problem‑solving with stakeholders, clients, and teammates.
  • Leadership in continuously improving technical performance.
  • Flexibility to travel up to 75% of the time, often requiring extended field stays.
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
  • Where lawful, may require post‑employment drug testing based on client needs.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s or advanced degree in environmental science, rangeland science, biological resources, or a closely related field.

Minimum of 3‑5 years experience leading delineations, preferably in the Gulf Region (TX, OK, LA, MS, AR).

Local, state, and federal compliance and permitting experience is a plus.

Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) or other applicable environmental certification is a plus.

Typical office environment with extended sedentary periods; field work includes uneven terrain, harsh weather, and long exposure to inclement conditions.

Pay Transparency

Pay ranges are provided where required. Final compensation is based on education, qualifications, experience, and location. Certain roles are bonus eligible.

Benefits Summary

Location and Travel

Position can be located in or near any Stantec Texas office. Up to 75% travel, including extended field stays.
