The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) is recruiting for an Environmental Protection Maintainer 3 at Squantz Pond State Park in New Fairfield.

Position Highlights
Squantz Pond State Park offers boating, swimming, fishing, hiking, and leaf peeping. The park encompasses 172 acres on Squantz Pond, a natural lake off Candlewood Lake. The unit includes additional areas such as Lover's Leap State Park, Pootatuck State Forest, and several boat launches.
This is a full-time, 40 hours per week position on first shift. Weekend duty may be required for the active recreation season (generally Memorial Day to Labor Day), including holidays.

Job Purpose
In the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, this class is accountable for performing a variety of skilled tasks as assigned.
Examples of Duties
- Performs skilled work in carpentry, masonry, painting, road and trail maintenance, and minor electrical repairs.
- Performs general maintenance on lands, buildings, dams, and other facilities owned by or under the department’s control.
- Uses, maintains and repairs hand and power tools and equipment (e.g., saws, axes, cant hooks, mowing equipment, tractors, trucks, boats).
- Operates and maintains firefighting equipment; may supervise maintenance operations and volunteers.
- May assist in planting, transplanting, cutting and pruning; may assist in wildlife management; performs emergency first aid as needed.
- May perform tasks related to care, propagation and stocking of fish and related hatchery equipment.
- May work with blueprints and specifications; may coordinate with support services for general maintenance.
- May perform patrol and firefighting activities; may perform limited clerical duties.
- Performs related duties as required.
Knowledge, Skill and Ability
Knowledge of map reading and measuring devices; simple record keeping. Interpersonal skills; ability to operate and repair small tools and mechanical equipment. Ability to follow general instructions, read nautical charts, and utilize computer software.
Minimum Qualifications
General Experience: Two (2) years of experience in maintenance and repair work related to natural resources.
Substitutions: Graduation from secondary school with specialization in a trade pertinent to natural resources may substitute for one (1) year of general experience.
Additional Qualifications
Experience leading or supervising employees; experience in hospitality or campground settings; experience operating and maintaining lawn and garden equipment; experience maintaining and repairing hand and power tools; experience in park and recreation facility maintenance operations; ability to work independently on construction projects; experience with Microsoft Office and email.
Special Requirements
May be required to obtain and retain Standard First Aid and CPR certificates. Operators of heavy equipment may need current licenses and certifications. Skilled trade workers may need licenses for their trade. May be required to operate a motor vehicle and hold a valid driver’s license (e.g., Commercial Driver’s License).
Physical and Working Conditions
Incumbents must be in good health with sufficient physical strength, stamina, and acuity to perform duties. May be exposed to varying weather conditions, lifting moderate weights, and handling chemical solutions.
