Enrico Fermi Fellowships - Third Cohort
Overview
The Center for SpaceTime and the Quantum invites applications for the Enrico Fermi Fellowships program ( an initiative funded by the John Templeton Foundation.
The Enrico Fermi Fellowships are designed for exceptional graduate students worldwide, aiming to fund part or all of their Ph.D. studies to enrich their graduate experience by pursuing research across the theory‑experiment divide. The program offers fellowships lasting one to two years (exceptionally three years), focusing on fundamental scientific areas such as Fundamental Physics, Astronomy, Cosmology, Quantum Foundations, Complexity & Emergence, especially where research addresses conceptual frontiers.
Program Details
This is the second call for applications. The first cohort and second cohorts, selected in early 2025 and 2026, were highly successful, with 22 fellows funded across a range of institutions and disciplines - see for more information.
The awarded fellows can request competitive salary support, a travel allowance, and research funds for their supervisors, with a maximum total budget of EUR 105,000 per year. Mentoring and convening activities will also be offered to support their professional development and build a network of well-rounded young scientists.
Application Deadline
The application deadline is October 18, 2026, at 11:59 PM CET. Fellowships are very flexible and can start any time between April 2027 and January 2028. The duration is expected to be less than two years, and the fellowship must end before May 2029. Apply on the EFF website.
