Responsibilities
- Perform routine inspections on a variety of contractor construction projects to ensure general compliance with contract plans, specifications, and standard drawings.
- Maintain daily pay records and diaries in accordance with NCDOT Standards and Specifications.
- Ensure all materials incorporated into the project are sampled/tested per NCDOT guidelines.
- Obtain NCDOT certifications for asphalt roadway paving, concrete testing, density, aggregate, and borrow pit sampling, and other certifications as required.
- Monitor subcontractors on project to ensure adequate DBE or MB/WB participation per the contract.
- Perform labor interviews.
- Promote a safe working environment.
- Conduct routine inspections for compliance with contract agreements, standard/codes, and specifications.
- Work under extreme weather and terrain conditions while performing duties, including in close proximity to high volumes of traffic and heavy construction equipment.
- Perform entry-level materials sampling, testing, and inspection.
- Communicate effectively with co‑workers, management, and the general public.
- Maintain accurate daily records of work accomplished.
- Apply safety philosophy and program to all operations.
- Maintain the ability to legally drive a state vehicle and wear safety toe footwear.
Additional Expectations
- Possess knowledge and understanding of general concepts and practices used in highway construction and design.
- Knowledge of mathematics (Algebra, Geometry, and Trigonometry).
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans, contract provisions, specifications, and inspection procedures.
Management Preferences
- Knowledge of standards and specifications and plan reading experience.
- Experience maintaining standard daily records and reports.
- Knowledge and skill in the use of computer equipment, iPad, and software.
- Knowledge and understanding of general concepts, practices, and theories used in construction, construction inspection, and/or construction surveying.
Minimum Education and Experience
Associate’s degree in an applicable area of Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Salary
NC07 $37,377 - $65,408
