Job Overview
Engineering Technician I (S) – NC07. This position is located in the Jacksonville Construction Office and supports technicians and engineers in construction inspection, surveying, materials sampling, testing, erosion control, and construction traffic control.
Responsibilities
- Perform a wide variety of standardized and non‑standardized tests and assignments in compiling, analyzing, computing, editing, and processing field data.
- Support construction, inspection, surveying, and traffic control activities under varying weather and site conditions.
- Operate motor vehicles safely and legally as required.
- Assist with workload as assigned, including night and weekend work, especially in emergency response to storm events.
- Maintain accurate, legible records and reports, including computer/iPad data entry.
- Follow safety philosophy and adhere to program requirements, including wearing safety toe shoes and other safety gear.
Qualifications
Applicants do not necessarily need a degree. Two years of related experience or an associate’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or an equivalent combination of education and experience are highly encouraged.
- Experience working within a team environment.
- Proficiency with computer equipment, iPad, and software.
- Customer‑service experience interacting with the general public.
- Knowledge and understanding of general concepts, practices, and theories used in construction, construction inspection, and/or construction surveying.
- Physical ability to lift 50 lbs. and perform moderate physical activity (walking, climbing, balancing, kneeling, standing).
- Ability to work nights and weekends as required.
Benefits & Salary
All state benefits including paid vacation, sick leave, health insurance, and retirement potential. Salary range NC07 $37,377 - $65,408.
