The Engineering Manager has the direct responsibility for controls and/or mechanical design engineering. The Engineering Manager develops and oversees the engineering departments, manpower, project schedules (hours and milestones), and budgetary/fiscal requirements. They provide technical support functions for all programs and projects as designated. Innovative, creative, cost‑effective design development, implementation, and departmental adherence to budgets and schedules are key performance criteria.

  • Lead and align the engineering team with the company’s vision and business goals.
  • Prioritize and delegate tasks to the team.
  • Develop, inspire, mentor, and evaluate the engineering team, creating a positive team culture.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional peers and leaders to deliver projects within the defined schedule and budget.
  • Improve engineering quality and efficiency.
  • Ensure DTQMS compliance for the department.
  • Implement best practices in architecture for development and design.
  • Drive technical roadmap and direction.
  • Provide technical guidance and coaching.
  • Prepare technical requirements and software design specifications.
  • Drive department skillset improvement.
  • Recruiting and interviews.
  • Attend meetings as required.
  • Perform design in addition to management workload demands.
  • Actively participate in quoting and concepting process.
  • Actively participate in project review.
  • Maintain customer and industry contacts and relationships to ensure awareness of marketing and technical trends, customer needs, and problems as they relate to the development of customer/company specifications. Participate in customer negotiations of significant importance.
  • Assure that departments within area of responsibility are properly staffed and trained; recommend use of outside consultants, contract help, or outsourcing of work when appropriate to ensure timely completion of projects.
  • Develop short‑ and long‑range engineering goals and objectives to be incorporated into the overall strategic plan.
  • Develop performance guidelines and standards for engineering staff; set departmental and individual staff goals to support management objectives. Evaluate staff performance in relation to established goals and objectives.
  • Participate in conceptual design reviews as required. Support a concurrent engineering program that creates continuity between concept, design, manufacturing, and assembly. Direct concurrent engineering efforts, seeking value‑added input from design specialists, manufacturing engineers, and related staff for new, improved, or more cost‑effective value‑engineered concepts. Review with designated staff and teams any variances from original design, preventing unnecessary drawing or design changes.
  • Act as liaison with other departments, sub‑contractors, and vendors to resolve problems related to design, manufacturing, product acceptance, technical performance, competitive cost, and quality assurance; approve acceptance or rejection of materials and assign non‑conformances as requested.
  • Review and monitor all engineering budgets and formulate manpower plans. Track by project, hours, personnel, and costs to ensure compliance with budgetary requirements. Assign engineering design, program, project review, and job release activities to managerial or technical staff. Assist engineering staff in coordinating all engineering activities, including following the concept and quote submitted with each project.
  • Develop preliminary schedules with engineering staff; guide finalization of schedules within all engineering departments; assist in processing compliance with customer change requests. Communicate recommended assignment of engineering staff and team members prior to kick‑off meetings. Follow through and work with Engineering Leads to ensure accurate effort estimates (ETAs or ETCs) for the engineering groups relative to budget and schedule to support the Project Management tracking system. Provide support and requested information to Project Managers and attend kick‑off meetings as required.
  • Develop, formally document, and improve processes, procedures, and standards for internal departmental use, including Plus/Delta’s produced at the end of each project. If processes impact external organization, provide documentation in areas such as geometric tolerance, stress calculation documentation, drawing standards, etc.

Additional (Non‑essential) Responsibilities

  • Perform other duties as required.
  • Demonstrate financial acumen appropriate for this position.
  • Travel to customer site as required.

Qualifications

  • MS/BS in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering and/or equivalent experience.
  • 10 years in engineering (special machine design, tool & die).
  • 5–10 years managing and directing mechanical and/or controls engineers and related support staff.
  • Must be an innovative technology leader, dedicated to product innovation, technology leadership, quality, and value of the products.
  • Must be aggressive, driven to achieve results, and a motivational leader.
  • Must possess the ability to conceive varied applications for systems and generate ideas as well as concepts for new products.
  • Must have a proven track record of developing staff and creating a team environment.
  • Experience, knowledge, and familiarity with high‑tech, high‑speed electro‑mechanical equipment, designing on CAD/SolidWorks software, manufacturing methods and operations, manufacturing engineering, assembly processes, and the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Lean Manufacturing experience is a plus.

Primary Location & Schedule

  • On‑site: 1107 Springfield Road, Lebanon, MO 65536
  • Full‑time, 40 hours per week.
  • Flexibility on start/end time, but must have regular and predictable attendance.
  • Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
  • Travel to customer sites as required.
