Our Tech team

Our Tech team excels at solving cutting‑edge technical challenges with elegant solutions. With a strong focus on product innovation and design, they are shaping the future of the online shopping experience. Their ambition is to have a positive impact on the everyday lives of hundreds of millions of users around the world.

Software Engineers in the Tech team work hand‑in‑hand with the Product team, from exploration, design, and roadmap prioritization to implementation, and deployment in production. Joko believes that teams with diverse skill sets and close engineering‑product collaboration can deliver truly delightful and innovative user experience.

What You Will Do – Engineering Manager

As Engineering Manager, you will manage a new team of exceptionally talented software engineers. This is a key leadership position at the helm of a team working on cutting‑edge technical projects encompassing various domains (mobile development, AI/ML, infrastructure, real‑time processing of large data streams, etc.). You will be responsible for the growth and success of this team and help shape the Engineering culture and the organization of tomorrow.

Responsibilities

  • Recruitment: lead the attraction and selection of the best talents.
  • Onboarding: ensure a smooth onboarding experience for new hires.
  • People Growth: spearhead the professional development of the engineers in your team.
  • Technical Leadership: review the work of your team members, guide their technical decision‑making, and provide mentorship.
  • Cross‑Team Collaboration: foster collaboration with other teams, ensuring seamless communication and synergies.
  • Strategic Coordination: contribute to prioritization and strategic discussions with the Product Team.
  • Process Improvement: continuously evaluate and improve team workflows.
  • Punctual Individual Contributions: engage in individual tasks such as automations, proofs of concept, explorations, optimizations, or bug fixes.

Who We’re Looking For

We’re looking for talented Engineering Managers who combine technical excellence, curiosity, ownership, and a product‑driven mindset.

Qualities may include:

  • Experience: at least 3 years of Software Engineering experience with at least 1 year in a management position.
  • Track record of high potential: strong experience or growth in a top‑tier company or project, an entrepreneurial or open‑source background, a top‑tier academic background (for more junior profiles), speaking at conferences, organising meetups, or contributing to tech communities.
  • Advanced technical expertise: extensive experience in software architecture and design, deep understanding of complex systems, interest in emerging technologies.
  • Builder’s mindset: hands‑on, impact‑oriented, technology as means to create value.
  • Full‑stack spirit: comfort across layers and languages.
  • Fast learner: quick to adopt new technologies, frameworks, or practices.
  • Problem solver: strong analytical skills, creative and pragmatic approach.
  • Communication: explain complex ideas simply, structure thoughts, listen actively.
  • Team player: humble, open to feedback, eager to help others grow.
  • Drive & ownership: initiative, accountability, aim for excellence.
  • Languages: fluent in English; French not required.

Our Hiring Process

  • Intro call: quick screening with the Hiring Manager or the Talent team.
  • Team interview: 45‑minute conversation with two Joko team members.
  • Role‑specific assessments:
    • For tech roles: live technical interviews including coding and system design; additional research interview for research internships.
    • For non‑tech roles: take‑home case study and interview.
  • Leadership interview: 45‑minute conversation with a SteerCo member and a Founder.
  • References: up to 3 calls with former colleagues or managers.
