Engineer V, Platform Engineering
PRINCIPAL SYSTEMS ARCHITECT
Global Healthcare Operations — Omnicell International
Role Overview
The Principal Systems Architect is responsible for defining, building, and evolving the technical foundations that enable Omnicell to remotely operate, support, and scale its installed base of pharmacy automation systems across hospital environments worldwide.
This is a strategic and founding-level role. The postholder operates across the full lifecycle of Omnicell's remote operations infrastructure — architecture, security, observability, customer connectivity, predictive maintenance enablement, and continuous improvement — while expanding its scope as the international business grows.
The position serves as the primary technical authority for international operations, acting as the local proxy and stakeholder interface toward global functions — including product engineering, cybersecurity, and architecture — ensuring that international operational realities and customer constraints are properly represented and addressed.
The role combines deep technical authority with senior customer engagement and cross-functional leadership, spanning engineering, support, field operations, and hospital IT organizations, without direct hierarchical authority over all stakeholders.
Global Infrastructure Architecture & Operations
- Defines, governs, and continuously evolves the architecture of a global telemetry and remote operations platform covering 500+ pharmacy automation sites across hospital environments in multiple countries
- Designs and maintains the technical foundations for secure remote connectivity, centralized telemetry, monitoring, alerting, and automated diagnostics
- Leverages telemetry data to enable preventive and predictive maintenance strategies, reducing on-site interventions and optimizing support cost-to-serve at scale
- Defines and enforces technical standards for patching, lifecycle management, access control, and system hardening across a heterogeneous, internationally deployed installed base
- Drives continuous improvement of system observability, automation, and operational scalability as the installed base grows
Customer IT Engagement & Remote Connectivity
- Acts as primary technical counterpart for hospital IT departments and DSI teams, negotiating remote access frameworks and connectivity architectures in constrained, security-sensitive environments
- Defines reference architectures for customer environments, balancing Omnicell operational requirements with hospital network and cybersecurity policies
- Leads technical discussions during pre‑deployment assessments, solution design, and infrastructure validation phases
- Aligns system architecture with customer constraints related to network architecture, cybersecurity policies, and healthcare IT governance frameworks
- Supports resolution of complex infrastructure incidents involving customer environments
Security & Credential Governance
- Serves as primary international proxy to global cybersecurity and compliance functions, ensuring that remote operations security posture is consistent with corporate standards while reflecting international operational constraints
- Defines and drives access management, authentication, and cybersecurity governance policies for remote operations across the installed base
- Identifies unaddressed organizational security risks and leads remediation initiatives, including the design and deployment of credential and VPN management frameworks integrated into service delivery systems
- Translates operational security requirements into governed work instructions and procedures, including in environments where formal QMS frameworks are being established
- Ensures remote operations infrastructure meets security and compliance requirements applicable in hospital and regulated healthcare IT environments
Product & Platform Leadership
- Serves as primary technical proxy for international operations in product and platform initiatives, representing operational and customer requirements to global engineering and product functions
- Provides architectural requirements and serviceability guidance to global Product Design Engineering teams on questions of remote operability, security, and privacy specific to international deployments
- Drives international operational initiatives to improve supportability, incident resolution efficiency, and scalability, in coordination with global product roadmap
Cross-Functional Leadership & Organizational Development
- Identifies organizational gaps and leads cross-functional remediation initiatives across security, operations, product, and customer engagement domains, coordinating with relevant global functions
- Manages and coordinates with third-party vendors and integrators in multi-supplier environments
- As the function is built and scales, provides technical leadership and mentoring to team members
- Contributes to the transition of remote operations from an externalized capability to a structured, scalable internal function
Technical Skills
