Responsibilities

  • Improve the turbulence scheme by adding a 3‑D effect at 200 m and optimise the vertical and horizontal length scales in the AROME model.
  • Use the Météo‑France high‑performance computing resources for development and preliminary testing.
  • Collaborate closely with SMHI and KNMI researchers through the Destination‑Earth (DE_330) framework.
  • Deliver improved forecasts at 200 m (or 100 m) for selected dates over pilot cities such as Antwerp, Barcelona, Paris and Bristol.
  • Evaluate and refine pseudo‑3D terms in the AROME code, revisiting the horizontal and vertical length scales and the numerical horizontal diffusion scheme.
  • Assess the impact of building height on the planetary boundary layer using multi‑layer coupling in SURFEX and explicit building‑height integration.
  • Interface with other partners across WP6‑7 (large‐scale models) and WP9 (building‑resolving models).

Qualifications

  • Engineer or Ph.D. in atmospheric sciences, computational fluid dynamics, or an equivalent field.
  • Extensive experience in turbulence and numerical weather prediction.
  • Strong grasp of physical processes governing the atmosphere.
  • Experience validating weather models with experimental data.
  • Familiarity with the AROME and Méso‑NH models.
  • Proficiency in Python and Fortran90.
  • Comfortable working in a team and as part of a project.
  • Ability to publish scientific articles.
  • Fluency in French essential to perform duties.
