Job Title: Engineer in the Radio Frequency Group
- Ref.: 23-35-P-ASD-RF
- Contract Type: Permanent contract
- Publication Date: 14/12/2023 on Front Office site
The Accelerator and Source Division (ASD) operates an accelerator complex with a 6 GeV electron storage ring, serving as the source of X-rays for experimental stations. In 2020, ESRF commissioned a new ultra-low emittance ring, the world’s first Extremely Brilliant Source (EBS) of hard X-rays. The RF group within ASD manages the 200 MeV Pre-Injector Linac, 352 MHz RF cavities of the booster and storage ring with high power RF transmitters, pulsed magnets, and power supplies for beam injection/extraction. The RF group has five units with 16 team members.
As an engineer in the RF group, within the RF power amplifiers unit, your main responsibilities will include:
- RF design, prototyping, characterization, and optimization of active RF components, especially RF amplifier boards.
Additionally, as part of the Accelerator and Source division, you will dedicate approximately 15% of your time to operating the accelerator complex, participating in shift work for user service, and RF standby duties.
Profile Requirements
- Higher university degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering with specialization in Radio Frequency and/or Microwave technology, or equivalent (300 ECTS diploma).
- At least 5 years of professional experience in high power RF engineering.
- Proficiency in microwave concepts such as S-parameters, waveguides, resonators, circulators, gain, efficiency, coupling, and directivity.
- Experience in measurements, diagnostics, and calibrations on complex RF equipment using vector network analyzers, RF power meters, spectrum analyzers, etc.
- Ability to prepare technical specifications, scientific reports, and deliver oral presentations in English (working language at ESRF).
- Strong teamwork skills.
Working Conditions
This is a permanent position. Participation in shift work is required according to ESRF regulations.
Salary will be based on relevant qualifications and professional experience.
