Engineer in optimization for hybrid energy systems
Integrated Power Modelling (IPM), within OneTech’s Power technical line, supports TotalEnergies technological ambition in the digitalization of the renewable energy value chain . IPM brings together scientific and digital expertise to develop digital products aimed at maximizing the performance and value of renewable assets , including solar, wind and energy storage. The organization is structured around four platforms , serving internal business clients such as GRP, REN, FPI and Trading: Origination & Design, Grid Integration, Operations Performance & Optimization, and Forecasting. Each platform is organized into three teams: Product Solutions (PS), Research & Capability Development (RCD), and Software Delivery & Operations (SDO).
The products of the Origination & Design platform aim to improve project design, energy yield assessment and cost evaluation, in order to maximize the value of renewable projects and future assets. These areas are strongly data-driven and rely on advanced digital solutions.
As a member of the platform, the engineer will work with a team supporting Business Units and OneTech on the optimization of sizing and operating strategies for hybrid energy systems , including asset decarbonization, green hydrogen production and grid-connected assets.
The position is part of a multi-year initiative aimed at developing and industrializing optimization algorithms and technology models to create an internal software solution dedicated to real industrial projects. As the project enters a strong acceleration phase, the role will be key to designing new optimization strategies, supporting active projects and contributing to deployment and scale-up across the Group .
You will join a dedicated team of eight engineers , committed to collaboration and mutual support, with regular technical sharing sessions and team-building activities such as lunches and afterworks .
- You will contribute to defining product evolutions with business users and the Product Manager, proactively identifying needs, priorities and areas for improvement.
- You will develop new optimization methods, or improve existing ones, to enhance the product’s capabilities across a wide range of business applications, including grid-connected assets, asset decarbonization and green hydrogen production.
- You will develop and evolve the product code to implement new features and improve its robustness, performance and maintainability.
- You will develop product features in line with the vision and priorities defined by the Product Manager, contributing to development follow-up, including Jira-type tools, and to delivery quality.
- You will take part in feature validation phases with business users and contribute to the continuous improvement of the product.
- You will contribute to product and model documentation, including assumptions, use cases and limitations, to support adoption and long-term maintainability.
- You will contribute to the robustness and reliability of the models through appropriate testing, validation and sensitivity analysis approaches.
- You will contribute to the industrialization of models and developments, focusing on performance, scalability and maintainability, with the objective of operational product use.
- You will contribute to product dissemination and adoption among users through communication, support and regular interactions.
- You will contribute to collaboration activities with other entities to enrich the models and extend the product’s functionalities.
- You will contribute to applied research activities aimed at improving the product’s performance and capabilities, including non linear optimization and uncertainty management.
