Engineer – I&C Systems Design
Overview
The BWRX-300 Controls Systems Design Engineer is responsible for design and analysis of I&C systems for nuclear power plant applications. The required work location is at the GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy (GVH) Headquarters in Wilmington, NC or the GVH Markham, Ontario (Canada) office.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate accountability for cost, schedule, quality, and technical accuracy of assigned tasks.
- Act as the point-of-contact between the engineering team and internal and external customers.
- Perform I&C System design and development from conceptual through preliminary and detailed design, fabrication, assembly, production test, validation test, as well as site installation, start-up test, and commissioning.
- Collaborate with other disciplines to define and achieve RAM targets and conduct FMEA.
- Lead or manage design and related technical scope for hand-off to internal or external suppliers, including design authority for performance, design assurance, qualification, standards, regulatory guidance, certification or licensing commitments, technical contracts, human factors, safety hazards, reliability, cyber security, and other system requirements.
- Collaborate with system supplier implementation teams to develop, perform, and review system and integration test plans, procedures, and reports including factory acceptance tests, site acceptance tests, construction tests, pre-operational tests, and start-up tests.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent from an accredited university or college.
- Minimum 2 months of experience (including internship experience) in nuclear power industry plant systems engineering, controls, or operations.

- This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in Boiling Water Reactor (BWR) systems, controls, or operations.
- Experience in nuclear analog and digital instrumentation, control, and monitoring with detailed knowledge in safety-related systems, hardware, software, theory of operation, including equipment environmental, seismic qualification testing and field services or plant start-ups.
- Experience in Distributed Control & Information System (DCIS) application and deployment.
- Experience in plant system reliability, simulation, and cyber security requirements.
- Experience using industry standards.
- Clear thinker, detail oriented, insightful, quantitative, results oriented – able to learn quickly and make reasoned, sound, and timely decisions.
- Effective communication, cross-discipline and functional facilitation, and influencing skills, both verbal and written with focus on requirements, design basis document and technical presentation preparation and delivery.
- Inclusive team player able to work successfully in a matrix environment with multiple assignments and priorities.
- Able and willing to take ownership and responsibility for work scoping, deliverables planning, prioritizing, scheduling, budgeting, action tracking, monitoring, corrective actions, reporting, etc., in a stressful, schedule-driven environment.
- Self-starter with positive energy, bias for action, and a proven track record of delivering on commitments and goals in a fast-paced environment.
- Continuous improvement mindset with an ability to identify, influence, and implement better ways to do an activity or process.

Pay range: For Canada-based candidates, the pay range is CAD 69,300 to CAD 119,300. The specific pay offered may be influenced by experience, education, and skill set.
Bonus eligibility: Discretionary annual bonus

Pay range (U.S. bases): For candidates applying to a U.S.-based position, the pay range is USD 69,600 to USD 120,200. The Company may apply geographic differentials in some areas. The specific pay offered may be influenced by factors such as experience, education, and skill set.
Bonus eligibility: discretionary annual bonus.
