Position Overview

Energy and Environment Reporter (full‑time) – Bismarck, ND. The role involves covering state‑wide energy and environmental stories, including developments in the Bakken oil fields, coal, wind energy, carbon capture projects, biofuels, rare earths/critical minerals, and cryptocurrency data centers.

Responsibilities

• Cover developments in the Bakken oil fields, coal, wind energy, and emerging energy initiatives such as the Dakota Access Pipeline protests and the proposed Summit Carbon Solutions pipeline.
• Produce news stories on state energy projects, carbon capture and sequestration, biofuels, rare earths/critical minerals, and data centers.
• Conduct research, interview stakeholders, and write compelling feature and news articles for the Bismarck Tribune.
• Collaborate with editorial staff and manage assignments in a fast‑paced newsroom (40 hours per week, including occasional night and weekend coverage).

Qualifications

• Previous reporting experience is preferred; recent graduates with strong writing and investigative skills are considered.
• Knowledge of energy, environment, and policy issues in North Dakota or similar markets is highly desirable.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills; proficiency with multimedia reporting tools is a plus.
• Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines.

Location & Schedule

Based in Bismarck, ND (state’s second‑largest city). Work schedule: 40 hours per week with occasional night and weekend assignments.
