Overview
We are seeking an experienced Embedded Software Platform Leader to drive the vision, strategy, and execution for the GridBeats™ product line. The role focuses on delivering robust, scalable, and secure embedded software solutions for Grid Automation’s IEDs and control platforms.
Responsibilities
- Define and implement the embedded software platform strategy in alignment with company objectives.
- Develop and maintain roadmaps for embedded software development, ensuring alignment with product and market requirements.
- Lead the development team in designing, coding, testing, and delivering reliable, secure, and high‑quality embedded software for IEDs.
- Oversee verification and validation (V&V) processes to guarantee functional and performance compliance.
- Implement rigorous testing protocols and quality assurance practices.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance performance, scalability, and security.
- Foster a culture of innovation and collaboration across hardware, software, product management, and program management.
- Communicate progress, challenges, and solutions effectively to stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and best practices.
- Stay current with emerging technologies and advancements in embedded systems.
- Mentor and develop team members; build a high‑performing, motivated, and cohesive team.
- Manage resource allocation, skill development, and R&D efficiency.
Qualifications / Requirements
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
- 10+ years of experience in embedded systems development, including software and hardware on multicore platforms focused on performance and determinism.
- Proficiency in C and C++, real‑time operating systems (RTOS), Linux, microservices, container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes), and virtualization.
- Strong experience with communication protocols: DNP3, Modbus, IEC 60870, IEC 61850 (MMS, GOOSE, SMV).
- Demonstrated leadership and management skills; ability to guide, mentor, and motivate engineering teams.
- Project management experience with ability to set technical direction and meet delivery deadlines.
- Excellent problem‑solving, analytical, and optimization capabilities.
- Effective communication skills for collaborating with cross‑functional teams.
- Knowledge of protection and control for Transmission & Distribution (T&D) and familiar with IEC standards 61850, 60870‑5, 62351, 62433‑4‑2.
- Continuous learning mindset and ability to stay current with emerging technologies.
- Experience in power system product design is a plus.

- Annual salary range: CAD$162,900–$244,300.
