Electrical Engineer – Building Systems

Job Type: Full-Time

Industry: Architecture / Engineering / Building Design

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to support a growing portfolio of municipal, educational, commercial, and industrial projects. This position will be responsible for the design, analysis, coordination, and documentation of building electrical systems from initial concept through construction.

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys working on a variety of projects, collaborating across multiple disciplines, and developing practical, code-compliant electrical solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Design electrical power distribution systems and develop one-line diagrams.
  • Design and lay out power, lighting, fire alarm, and low-voltage systems for building projects.
  • Perform branch circuiting and develop accurate electrical panel schedules.
  • Conduct lighting calculations to verify required illumination levels.
  • Prepare project-specific electrical specifications and scopes of work.
  • Perform short-circuit, coordination, and arc-flash studies and document findings.
  • Conduct field investigations and site visits to evaluate existing electrical conditions.
  • Review electrical submittals and shop drawings for compliance with project requirements.
  • Assist with fire alarm system design and associated specifications.
  • Design low-voltage systems including communications, security, and access control .
  • Coordinate electrical designs with architectural, mechanical, structural, and other engineering disciplines.
  • Support construction administration and respond to project-related technical questions as needed.
  • Work closely with architects, engineers, clients, and project teams throughout the design and construction process.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • 4+ years of electrical design experience preferred.
  • Experience designing electrical systems for commercial, municipal, educational, industrial, or similar building projects.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD .
  • Experience with Revit MEP is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and applicable local building codes.
  • Experience with electrical power distribution, lighting, panel schedules, and branch circuit design.
  • Familiarity with short-circuit, coordination, and arc-flash studies.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and related applications.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to pursue Professional Engineer (PE) licensure .
