Position Overview

This traineeship is based at the EIB headquarters in Luxembourg and requires regular office presence. It is part of the Operations Directorate (OPS) – Financial Institutions Department (FID) – Financial Institutions East Division (3‑EAST) – Unit 1. The programme lasts 5 months (fixed start 1st September/October 2026) with a possible extension up to 6 months if required by the university. The traineeship programme aims to attract applications from nationals of the Member States of the European Union, and trainees whose Erasmus+ programme overlaps with the duration of the traineeship will not be considered. You are requested to limit your applications to a maximum of three traineeship publications; only the first three applications submitted will be retained.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to market research and sector analysis of financial intermediary activities in selected Central and Eastern European markets.
  • Support the analysis of financial institutions and individual transactions by collecting, reviewing and structuring relevant business, financial and market information.
  • Assist in the preparation of background materials, presentations and internal documentation for selected transaction‑related workstreams.
  • Contribute to financial and counterparty analysis under the guidance of more senior team members.
  • Support the team in monitoring market developments and organizing relevant information for ongoing analytical work.

Academic Qualifications and Professional Skills

  • Final year of studies or university degree in finance, economics, business administration or a related field.
  • Good understanding of financial analysis and interest in banking, financial institutions and market-related work.
  • Interest in researching and analysing financial institutions, transactions and market developments.
  • Strong analytical and drafting skills, with the ability to structure information clearly and accurately.
  • Very good knowledge of standard Microsoft Office tools, in particular Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English; knowledge of other EU languages would be an advantage.
