District Attorney Legal Assistant
Job Responsibilities
The Office of the District Attorney, Prosecutorial District 15, Brunswick and Columbus counties seeks a qualified candidate to provide legal support services to the prosecutors. Duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Answer phones
- Assist the public
- Type correspondence
- Prepare legal documents
- Prepare files
- Assist victims and witnesses in understanding and preparing for court
- Gather information to assist in the prosecution of cases
- Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities / Competencies
- Knowledge of: court system and procedures; legal terminology; community resources to refer victims and witnesses
- Skill in: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint); accurately typing 35‑40 wpm; answering a multi‑line telephone system
- Ability to: interview to elicit information from victims and witnesses; coordinate and schedule the daily operations of the victim and witness program; manage the court appearances of victims and witnesses; communicate orally and in writing with persons of diverse backgrounds; establish and maintain effective working relationships with law enforcement officers, officials of related agencies, and the general public; calmly handle stressful situations
Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience: Graduation from high school or high‑school equivalency certificate and two (2) years of legal secretarial experience.
Salary
$45,000.00 – $63,700.00
