Job Overview: The Director of Environmental Services is responsible for ensuring that the physical condition of the retirement community is maintained in a condition that reflects the Spring Living brand and brand standards, ensuring the safety of residents, employees, and guests. The focus of this role is achieving these goals within the allocated budget.
The incumbent ensures high levels of resident satisfaction with building condition and cleanliness (as measured by the Resident Satisfaction Survey) and also ensures that health & safety risks to employees, residents and the general public are minimized or eliminated. The incumbent maintains installed equipment in working order or returns it to service as quickly as reasonably possible. Capital spend and the department budget are monitored to meet or exceed guidelines while developing and maintaining an engaged workforce.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Inspect all work areas and essential equipment as part of an ongoing safety and fire protection program to ensure safety standards are maintained, clean and sanitary and equipment is in safe working order.
- Know how to use and monitor specialized building automation systems, fire safety equipment, call boxes, emergency shut‑offs etc.
- Establish and maintain preventative maintenance schedules for required equipment.
- Promote culture and practices involved in line with environmental sustainability.
- Maintain the facilities and grounds in “showcase” condition at all times.
- Select, train, develop, engage and manage performance of all environmental and housekeeping staff (where applicable).
- Manage department budget and support the community capital budget process.
- Contribute as part of the residence leadership team to maximize resident satisfaction.
- Manage the room refresh process to achieve maximum cost effectiveness and contribute to the achievement of occupancy targets.
- Manage external vendor contracts with respect to service and cost.
- Uphold and promote the organization’s values and philosophy relating particularly to ethics, morality, and integrity as set out in Spring Living’s Code of Conduct.
- Complete all other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
- Must have or be enrolled in a certified Facility Management professional technical program or trades license.
- Minimum of three (3) years’ experience working in the area of Environmental Services.
- Experience managing and leading a team is considered an asset.
- Completion of, or enrollment in the Property Administration Certificate (PAC) program.
- Knowledge of building systems including basic plumbing, electrical, mechanical, HVAC and emergency systems.
- Knowledge and experience in aspects of housekeeping, laundry and maintenance preferred.
Pay: From CA$50,000.00 per year
