Job Description

This position is for current Sparty’s Market Stockhandler team members to transition to On‑Call status. The role involves working at the Sparty’s Market at 1855 Place – Culinary Services Retail Operations, providing customer service and supporting daily operations. The hourly rate is $20.00 per hour.

Typical Duties

• Deliver outstanding Spartan experiences (DOSE) in every interaction.
• Assist customers with purchases, including food/drink orders, and address guest concerns during the shift.
• Address and troubleshoot any operational/equipment problems and site needs at the assigned location.
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the site through daily rounds and cleaning, during shift and after close.
• Supervise the store by assisting support staff with conflict mediation, opening the safe, verifying banks, ensuring floor duties are completed, organizing breaks, and covering breaks as needed.
• Operate the cash register/POS system, following all cash handling procedures.
• Have knowledge of store products and site layout.
• Stock and maintain displays, merchandise, and monitor inventory levels.
• Assist the Full‑Time Stockhandler with creating ordering pars, submitting product orders, and meeting with vendors.
• Move product to other Retail Services sites as requested, such as equipment, paper products, cleaning products, etc.
• Complete special projects assigned by full‑time managers and site coordinators.
• Maintain a high degree of employee morale, demonstrating a positive, professional work approach.
• Communicate with supervisors, managers, and all other team members to ensure excellent teamwork, service, and customer assistance.
• Lifting and moving up to 50 pounds.
• Stand and walk over 90% of the shift.
• Bend and straighten at waist and/or squat repeatedly throughout the shift.

Required Qualifications

• Must be a current Stockhandler with Sparty’s Market.
• Valid U.S. driver’s license.
• Ability and strong desire to deliver outstanding Spartan experiences to both guests and teammates.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors, managers, and other team members, remaining positive and respectful, especially when working with a diverse population.
• Ability to receive constructive direction from supervisors/managers and professionally, quickly, and efficiently implement it to improve product or service.
• May be reassigned during the course of the shift, depending on operational needs.
• Maintain standards of personal hygiene consistent with sanitation rules and regulations required.
• Employ basic computer use to complete online compliance training and use a register.
• Must have ability and willingness to:
  • Complete tasks in a timely manner with minimal supervision.
  • Lift and move up to 25 pounds, and stand/walk for long periods of time.
  • Bend and straighten at waist and/or squat, sometimes repeatedly during the shift.
  • Work all shifts as scheduled, remaining flexible to the needs of the operation.
• While on your shift, you will report to student and/or full‑time supervisors and full‑time management staff on duty. You will be responsible for satisfactorily performing tasks as assigned by those supervising your work in the area to which you’ve been assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

• Food service/customer service experience.
• Desire to grow skillset.
• Reliable personal transportation.

Physical Demands

• Standing and walking over 90% of the shift.

• Bending and straightening at waist and/or squatting repeatedly throughout the shift.

Work Hours

Weekly hours: 5 pm – 11 pm Monday‑Friday and consistent weekend hours.
