Digital Card Engineering Team Lead

We're looking for an experienced Digital Card Engineering Team Lead to lead the development of next-generation digital card and mobile wallet capabilities within a highly secure, enterprise-scale environment.

This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on engineering leader who enjoys balancing technical leadership with people management while working on products used by millions of customers globally.

The Role

You’ll lead a cross-functional engineering team responsible for delivering secure digital card provisioning, tokenisation and lifecycle management solutions across mobile platforms. Working closely with Product, Security, Compliance and Engineering teams, you’ll help shape technical strategy while ensuring high standards of quality, reliability and security.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys remaining close to the technology whilst mentoring engineers and driving engineering best practice.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a high-performing engineering team delivering digital card capabilities.
• Define technical direction and architecture for secure, scalable payment solutions.
• Drive engineering excellence across software quality, testing, observability and operational performance.
• Collaborate with Product and Architecture teams to deliver incremental business value.
• Champion secure software engineering practices within a regulated environment.
• Support incident management, continuous improvement and platform reliability.
• Coach and mentor engineers whilst remaining technically hands-on where required.

About You

You’ll bring experience in most of the following:

• Proven experience leading software engineering teams.
• Background in Android, backend Java/Spring or API-driven platforms.
• Experience working within regulated or security-focused environments.
• Knowledge of secure software development, encryption and modern engineering practices.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Experience with AI-assisted development tools is advantageous.

Experience within digital payments, card technology, tokenisation, mobile wallets or payment authentication would be highly beneficial.
