Pennylane is hiring a Design System Manager to own Purse, their design system, as a product, including its vision, roadmap, governance, and quality bar. The role is hands-on and involves providing craft leadership to Design System Designers, partnering with Design Ops and engineering on design–code parity, and evolving the system toward an AI-ready future. The company has a design organization of 40+ product designers working across web, mobile, and tablet and is growing that team.

What you'll do

• Own the vision, roadmap, and governance of Purse and evolve the system as a product toward an AI-ready future through milestone-driven releases
• Set and uphold the quality bar for components, tokens, patterns, and accessibility, building system work hands-on today and providing craft leadership
• Drive adoption and measure system value, partnering with the Design Ops Manager and engineering on design–code parity, and report impact to leadership
• Communicate well in both English and French

What they're looking for

• Experience owning the vision and roadmap of a design system at scale, supporting 40+ designers and engineers across web, mobile, and tablet
• Ability to balance an ambitious long-term vision with pragmatic, milestone-driven delivery
• Strong product sense applied to a design system, treating it as a product with users, adoption metrics, and a roadmap
• Experience defining and evolving design system governance and contribution models that balance autonomy and consistency
• Track record of setting and holding a quality bar for components, tokens, patterns, and accessibility as contribution volume grows
• Comfort making tooling and infrastructure decisions in partnership with design ops and engineering
• Hands‑on maker who personally authors components, tokens, and patterns and maintains the Figma library, tapering production as the team grows
• Deep design-system craft including components, APIs, token systems, semantic naming, theming / multi-brand, and ability to mentor IC designers
