Horizon 2020 Is the Job related to staff position within a Research Infrastructure? No
Offer Description
The successful candidate will characterize cortico-cortical evoked potentials (CCEPs) from electrophysiological recordings obtained during clinical electrical stimulations in patients with epilepsy. Working within a research team at the interface of cognitive/clinical neuroscience and signal processing, the role centers on an existing analysis pipeline: refining it, applying it to new patient data, developing it further, and making it sustainable and transferable so that future team members can use and build on it independently.
The work breaks down into three areas:
Preprocessing of new patient data (~50%) — importing and formatting electrophysiological recordings, signal quality control, identifying and removing artifacts, segmenting around stimulations, applying the existing preprocessing pipeline, and checking the outputs.
Continuing the analyses (~40%) — running and improving the analyses that characterize CCEPs (extracting and quantifying evoked responses, connectivity measures, statistics), adapting and extending the scripts, producing figures and results, and contributing to their interpretation with the team.
Documentation and knowledge transfer (~10%) — writing clear documentation of the pipeline (installation, code structure, step-by-step procedures, use cases), organizing and version-controlling the code, and establishing good practices for reproducibility and handover.
Where to apply
Requirements
Research Field Engineering » Biomedical engineering Education Level Master Degree or equivalent
Skills/Qualifications
Solid foundations in signal processing (filtering, denoising, time-series analysis) and proficiency in at least one scientific programming language (Python and/or MATLAB). Understanding of electrophysiology and neurophysiology (EEG/SEEG, evoked potentials, stimulation artifacts) and knowledge of applied statistics. Familiarity with reproducibility principles and code management (version control such as Git).
Practical ability to take over, run, and further develop an existing analysis pipeline; write clean, structured, reusable code; preprocess and quality-control electrophysiological data; conduct statistical analyses and produce clear visualizations; and write technical documentation understandable to non-specialists.
Personal aptitudes: rigor and a concern for reproducibility, autonomy and strong organization, ability to communicate with varied stakeholders (researchers, clinicians), team spirit and a teaching mindset, scientific curiosity, and adaptability.
Education: Master's degree (Bac +5) in psychology, neuroscience, or biomedical engineering.
Experience: initial experience in the analysis of invasive electrophysiological data in humans (internship or engineer position), ideally with CCEPS.
Specific Requirements
The work involves sensitive human data from intracranial recordings and must be carried out in compliance with the relevant ethical and regulatory frameworks. It requires close collaboration with a clinical setting (epileptology, intracerebral electrical stimulation) and regular interactions with clinicians, researchers, and technical staff. The role is carried out mainly on a computer workstation (analysis and development).
