DCEO Chief Engineer, Data Center Engineering Operations

AWS is looking for a detail‑oriented individual to join our Data Center Engineering Operations (DCEO) Team. This group works to maintain the critical physical infrastructure that supports Amazon Web Services, ensuring the data center’s MEP operates at 100 % availability and maintaining first‑class customer service to the teams within the data centers.

Key job responsibilities

• Oversee the day‑to‑day operations and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment in a data center.
• Operate independently with limited direct management.
• Act as an escalation point for all facility‑related issues within the data center, escalating to the Data Center Facility Manager as needed.
• Perform root‑cause analysis of equipment failures.
• Troubleshoot and report facility and data‑center‑level events within internal SLAs.
• Create and deploy new standard practices for Engineering Operations Technicians, Chief Engineers, and vendor support teams.
• Provide training and guidance to Engineering Operations Technicians.
• Ensure all safety procedures are adhered to by vendor and Amazon staff.
• Utilize internal CMMS to manage building workflows.
• Communicate complex technical information to a non‑technical audience.
• Direct, train and support Engineering Operation Technicians in troubleshooting electrical and mechanical equipment (e.g., generators, UPS, PDU, AHU, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, motors, VFDs, building automation systems).
• Manage small‑to‑medium impacting projects from conception to completion, including obtaining quotes, tracking costs, and documenting results for future implementation.

Basic Qualifications

• Industrial or Data Center fields related engineering.
• 5+ years of relevant work experience in a data center or other critical environment.
• Engineering degree in Electrical or Mechanical.

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Solid leadership and organizational skills.
• Data Center or other critical facility experience with a minimum of 5 years.
