Data Scientist - Research & Innovation
DATA SCIENTIST (Saint-Ouen, France)
We are L'Oréal. We don’t just create brands—we shape the way the world experiences beauty. This role sits in the Artificial Intelligence & Data Science team and focuses on defining and enacting the algorithmic strategy for R&I to support its digital transformation. The role collaborates with local teams and data scientists worldwide, working closely with formulation, clinical, and regulatory teams to transform advanced algorithms into real-world consumer beauty products.
Responsibilities
- Advanced Modeling & Algorithmic Strategy
- Design, implement, and deploy innovative algorithms, with a focus on constructing generative AI pipelines (LLMs, transformers, diffusion models) applied to chemistry.
- Translate non-technical user needs into algorithmic constraints and specifications, developing methods adapted from scientific literature.
- Handle, prepare, and preprocess complex data to support development and training of these algorithms.
- Strategic Collaboration & Technology Transfer
- Partner with Research and Innovation (R&I) labs to evaluate predictive formulation methods and support green chemistry data requirements.
- Act as a technical expert during technology transfer of models to user-facing products, ensuring integration and performance.
- Define evaluation protocols, analyze performance, and quantify real-world impact on end-users.
- Scientific Advocacy & IP Protection
- Support intellectual property protection by generating patents and publications in scientific journals.
- Interpret statistical results to support decision-making and help project leaders make data-driven decisions.
- Lead and promote data visualization and analytics by coordinating a community of R&I data analyst contributors.
We Are Looking For
- Scientific excellence combined with a pragmatic, product-oriented, and results-driven mindset.
- Proactive attitude with a high sense of responsibility and project ownership.
- Data & Digital oriented: comfortable with cutting-edge digital tools and data-driven scientific approaches.
- Collaborative spirit and excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical topics clearly to non-technical audiences.
- Agile and solutions-oriented: able to manage competing priorities, work autonomously, and think outside the box.
You are the ideal candidate if you have
- A Master’s or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or a related quantitative field.
- A minimum of 4 years of experience in data science (excluding doctoral thesis work where applicable), with a proven track record of developing and deploying ML/DL models.
- Strong expertise in Transformers (ideally experienced), Python, R, LangChain, PyTorch, TensorFlow, and Bayesian statistics.
- Full professional fluency in both English and French (read, written, spoken).
