Data Scientist

Aviwell is a deeptech startup with a mission to feed the world more efficiently and sustainably, while respecting natural resources. Aviwell operates at the convergence of digital & life sciences. Our headquarters is in Toulouse and our CEO and business development office is in Boston, USA. We develop processes for the identification and production of natural bacterial communities to improve the growth of farm animals. Aviwell aims to market these innovative, natural and sustainable products on a global market.

In order to strengthen its in-silico research and innovation department, Aviwell is recruiting a data scientist with good knowledge of AI/machine learning algorithms. S/he will apply such algorithms in particular on multi-omics biological datasets and will help in the development of novel methodologies. The position requires high coding proficiency and involves interaction with the bioinformatic team, providing the data, and biostatistic team analysing them. The Candidate will also interact with Aviwell multidisciplinary team members (microbiologists / physiologist) about AI concepts/results and graphical representations.

Summary of Job Responsibilities

• Develop and/or apply ML/AI models, algorithms, and analytics to extract insights from complex, large-scale datasets including foundation models.
• Communicate analysis and results to key stakeholders across the organisation
• Keep up with the latest advancements in data science, machine learning, and AI and implement appropriate new techniques.
• Review and contribute to study reports and statistical sections of regulatory dossiers and intellectual property submissions.
• Interact with other associates who are encoding and generating user-friendly graphical interfaces to facilitate work with biologists/physiologists.
• Develop strong collaboration and communication with academic support networks and cross-functional teams.

Qualifications and Experience

• Master or PhD in data science (statistics, data mining, machine learning, AI) or computer science
• Highly proficient with Python/PySpark and a standard set of libraries for machine learning and AI.
• Experience in using AI frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch), data viz tools and the Linux environment.
• Experience with git, github, and release management tools.
• Ideally, would also :
• Have knowledge of omics data (e. g. next generation sequencing, metagenomics, transcriptomics, metabolomics, etc.)
• Have knowledge of database encoding and graphical interface.
