Data Engineer, Places at amo. About the role We are seeking a skilled data engineer to join our dynamic team in Paris, focusing on the infrastructure that supports our location-based services. In this role, you will be tasked with constructing and overseeing the data pipelines that handle extensive geospatial datasets, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of our information. Your contributions will be vital in enhancing our understanding of place-related data and improving our overall data quality.

What you'll do

• Design, implement, and maintain robust data pipelines tailored for geospatial and location-centric information.
• Handle and refine large geospatial datasets, ensuring the elimination of inaccuracies and noise from real-world signals.
• Improve the observability and reliability of our datasets, enhancing their overall quality and usability.
• Set up feedback mechanisms and metrics to monitor data quality and ensure proper attribution.
• Develop prototypes using programming languages such as Python and SQL, along with notebook environments for testing and validation.
• Integrate production experiments seamlessly with our backend systems to facilitate data flow.
• Conduct A/B testing and offline evaluations to assess and validate the performance of our data solutions.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure data alignment with business objectives and user needs.
• Document processes and maintain clear communication regarding data pipeline statuses and improvements.
• Stay updated on industry trends and best practices to continuously enhance our data engineering capabilities.
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to the development of best practices within the engineering team.

Requirements

• Strong proficiency in Python and SQL, with a solid understanding of their application in data engineering.
• Demonstrated experience deploying Python or Scala in production settings, showcasing your ability to work in real-world environments.
• Practical knowledge of PySpark, Spark SQL, Spark Streaming, Parquet, and Iceberg, with hands-on experience managing large-scale data pipelines.
• Familiarity with working on Point of Interest (POI) datasets, place matching, or similar real-world entity data.
• Capability to define and measure metrics related to data quality and to conduct experiments effectively.
• Understanding of backend systems, with the ability to read and comprehend production-level code.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and a detail-oriented mindset to ensure data integrity.

Nice to have

• Experience in fields related to mobility, mapping, local search, or geospatial systems, enhancing your understanding of our domain.
• Knowledge of entity resolution techniques, embeddings, recommendations, or ranking systems, which could add value to our projects.
• Familiarity with stream processing tools such as Flink, which can enhance our data processing capabilities.
• Experience in reading or modifying systems built with Rust, providing a broader technical perspective.
