Job Description

At Joko we empower people to shop smarter through cashback, automatic coupons, price alerts, carbon tracking and an AI‑powered assistant that helps users find the best products based on price, quality or impact. We are scaling globally with a strong focus on the US.

Data Team

The Data team transforms data into a product that powers insights, automation and innovation across the company. As part of Data & Operations, we build robust data foundations to enable smarter, faster and more scalable decisions. We are looking for our very first Data Engineer to own infrastructure, set new standards for scalability and reliability, and lay the foundations of a scalable data platform that powers future growth, new markets and AI‑driven features.

What We Do

  • Build data as a product: design, document and maintain trusted datasets used company‑wide—from business reporting to experimentation, automation and internal tools.
  • Operate and evolve a modern data stack: currently on Snowflake, dbt, Airbyte and Metabase, with plans to factorize pipelines, strengthen orchestration and improve monitoring and governance.
  • Deliver actionable insights and power AI: high‑quality reports, self‑serve dashboards and data tools that help every team understand, explore and act on data, and lay the groundwork for data science and AI features.
  • Spread data culture: foster a strong data culture by training teams and sharing best practices to make data both accessible and trustworthy.

What You Will Do

As our first Data Engineer you will own the design and scaling of our data infrastructure, working closely with Data Analysts, Product Managers and Engineers to create a reliable, secure, high‑performing platform. This high‑impact role offers significant autonomy and growth potential.

Responsibilities

  • Scale our data infrastructure: lead the evolution of the stack to be more scalable, reliable and cost‑efficient, anticipating growth in data volume and complexity.
  • Design and maintain data pipelines: build robust processes to ingest data from multiple sources and orchestrate them efficiently.
  • Unlock scalable data modelling: support Data Analysts by improving dbt project organization, factorizing dbt jobs and ensuring quality and scalability of data transformation.
  • Ensure data quality & observability: implement monitoring, testing and alerting systems to guarantee freshness, reliability and accuracy of data.
  • Manage data access & governance: define and enforce access control policies in Snowflake and Metabase to ensure data security and compliance.
  • Implement documentation & knowledge sharing: document models, pipelines and workflows to support onboarding and long‑term autonomy.
  • Collaborate with Data Analysts and stakeholders: work closely with teams to ensure the stack supports their needs and empowers them.
  • Help tackle new challenges: build infrastructure to support new market launches, internationalization, large growing data volumes, factorize and centralise pipelines, and lay groundwork for AI initiatives across the company.

Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of experience in data engineering or a similar role with ownership over building and/or scaling infrastructure.
  • Track record of implementing or scaling a modern data stack (e.g., Airflow, dbt, Snowflake, BigQuery, event streaming) in a startup or scale‑up.
  • Proficient in SQL and Python; hands‑on experience with orchestration tools, cloud environments such as Snowflake, GCP, AWS.
  • Architectural thinking: strong understanding of data modelling, warehousing principles and performance optimisation.
  • Mindset: pragmatic, curious, proactive, valuing clean architecture, documentation and continuous improvement.
  • Collaboration: able to communicate clearly with technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Languages: fluent in English, written and spoken.

Perks

Some of the benefits listed below are available to full‑time positions only.

  • Flexible remote: if you live in Paris you can work from office or home; if you live elsewhere we can provide access to a coworking space and budget.
  • Work from anywhere: spend a month in Italy or other countries for up to 3 months per year.
  • Top‑market compensation.
  • Equity for everyone with the chance to own a piece of what you build.
  • Half‑day each week dedicated to learning AI by exploring new tools, iterating and sharpening skills.
  • Yearly offsite in amazing locations and budget for team‑building events & monthly in‑person gatherings.
  • Contribution to your ClassPass subscription.
  • 8‑week leave paid 100% for the second parent.
