Role
As an Amazon Field Engineer and Critical Infrastructure Engineer, you will provide full life‑cycle support to AWS Data Centers from design inception through site improvement and maintenance. You will lead projects to fit out our data centers to meet evolving customer needs as we expand our fleet to hyper‑scale. You will collaborate with cross‑functional teams to deliver safety and security standards while providing capacity at the lowest possible cost.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform design and equipment submittal review for new Data Centers in your region.
- Troubleshoot, conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and create Corrective Action (CA) documentation for site/equipment failures.
- Support operational issues with ad‑hoc training, complex operating procedure reviews, and event support.
- Own conceptual design for existing data center upgrades and design solutions to add capacity, improve availability, and increase efficiency and sustainability.
- Interface with internal data center operations, design engineering, server hardware, and environmental health and safety teams to promote consistent standards.
- Work on concurrent projects, often across multiple geographical regions.
- Initiate and lead engineering audits, including on‑site visits, and produce reports outlining risks with recommended mitigations.
- Act as resident engineer during new construction projects, supporting construction, commissioning, and turnover.
Qualifications
- Experience with mission‑critical facilities engineering (data centers, power generation, oil & gas).
- Business‑level fluency in written and spoken English.
- Willingness to travel between Data Center sites, and internationally if required.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
- Data analytics, querying, scripting skills, and comfort working with large data sets.
- Direct experience with design, construction, operation, or maintenance of mission‑critical facilities, especially data centers.
- Experience as resident engineer or hands‑on in‑field design consultant or owner’s engineer.
- Knowledge of building codes and regulations for your region, and experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents.
- Ability to carry design concepts through exploration, development, and deployment.
- Basic understanding of mechanical and/or electrical equipment/design related to data centers (e.g., UPS, diesel generators, switchgear, PDU, variable frequency drives, chillers, pumps, cooling towers, CRAHs, fans, economizers, water treatment).
- Experience with EPMS/SCADA/BMS controls systems.
- Business‑level fluency in written and spoken French (preferred).
