Assistant Regional Counsel
Open attorney position for the Office of Criminal Conflict and Civil Regional Counsel. Applicants must have current admission to the Florida Bar. The primary responsibility of an assistant regional counsel is to provide highly efficient and professional representation to our clients.
Responsibilities
- Accept, research, and prepare each case efficiently and expeditiously.
- Advise and counsel clients regarding plea offers, rights and options, strategies, sentencing, appellate rights, and related matters.
- Establish and maintain a professional relationship with each client, family, witness, and court personnel.
- Maintain open lines of communication with clients, families, witnesses, and court personnel.
- Involve investigators, interns, and other support staff appropriately.
- Seek assistance from experts appropriate to the case.
- Demonstrate maturity and a professional demeanor at all times.
- Exercise sound judgment to achieve desired results.
- Handle emergency assignments when needed.
- Attend and participate in training seminars, division meetings, and staffing sessions.
- Abide by all Regional Counsel policies and procedures outlined in the manual, including attendance, punctuality, and professional dress code.
- Perform other related work as required.
Qualifications
- Member in good standing of the Florida Bar and able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with correct English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions and procedures.
- Sound judgment and good listening skills, handling matters with integrity and confidentiality.
- Ability to plan and prepare reports, correspondence, and charts in various formats.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Outlook, and general office equipment.
- Highly organized, able to establish priorities, manage multiple assignments simultaneously, and meet deadlines.
- Flexible in work assignments and processes based upon need; willing to travel to various locations throughout the circuit for assignments and training.
Education and Experience
Juris Doctorate (JD).
Skills
- Read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, technical procedures, legal documents, and governmental regulations.
- Write reports, business correspondence, and transcripts.
- Basic mathematical skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in all units of measure.
- Apply common sense and understanding to carry out instructions given in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations; evaluate problems, isolate key issues, research and develop alternative solutions.
Physical Demands
Regularly mobile, able to speak and hear, sit, reach with hands and arms, stand as required, and occasionally lift or move up to 10 pounds. Requires close and distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
Certifications / Licenses
- Valid Florida Driver's license.
- Valid Florida Bar license.
Work Environment
Moderate noise level. Equipment: personal computers, printers, copiers, scanners, telephones, calculators, cell phone. Work hours: 8 AM – 5 PM, Monday through Friday.
