Country Manager France
Job Description
General Summary:
The Country Manager, France, will lead the country and commercial operations for Vertex Pharmaceuticals Incorporated in a larger/more complex country to achieve business objectives for marketed products and launch multiple new innovative medicines. This individual will be responsible for managing the P&L, securing market access for new and marketed medicines, and leading the overall organization for Vertex in cystic fibrosis (CF) as well as future therapeutic areas.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead Vertex's affiliate in a larger/more complex country with overall responsibility for local business planning, cross-functional leadership, and direct management of the commercial organization including sales, marketing, and market access
- Drive revenue growth for the CF franchise and manage overall Country P&L
- Build and develop a high performing, fit for purpose cross-functional team to deliver the Vertex business strategy in a larger/more complex country
- Lead the business with a strong vision, nurture a high-performance customer-focused, collaborative culture and hold people at all levels accountable for delivery of business objectives
- Create and maintain trust-based relationships with patient advocacy groups, HCPs, policymakers, payors, industry associations and regulators at senior levels to advance business priorities
- Have a deep understanding of the reimbursement mechanisms in a larger/more complex country and secure/maintain access to Vertex's medicines in line with company expectations
- Work with Regional/Local Market Access Leads and International Health Economics group to ensure Health Technology Assessments are successful
- Develop and implement local reimbursement strategy; lead pricing negotiations with local payors
- Contribute to the organization's overall strategy and provide timely input to senior management on opportunities, challenges, and risks in the policy environment, and adjust country plans as needed
- Lead development and implementation of local launch plans for label extensions and new medicines in line with the Vertex Global CF strategy
- Partner with International/Global marketing teams to ensure marketing strategies support local needs
- Lead the development and implementation of the Country Government Affairs plan in partnership with Regional/Local Government Affairs Lead
- Lead and manage solid line direct reports in sales, marketing, and market access as well as dotted line reports in other functions such as Finance and HR for example
- Ensure appropriate leadership and development of the team: define clear objectives, allocate resources, monitor activities, allocate fair rewards, and provide developmental opportunities
- Role model the Vertex Values and ethical behavior with a constant concern to meet legal, ethical and social responsibility standards required by local laws and organizational culture
- Ensure that all activities are in line with the legal, ethical, and regulatory standards, as well as company policies and procedures
- Establish and maintain positive attitude, constructive communication and transparency within team and various internal stakeholders
- Identify and remove barriers to ensure corporate success
- Inform management on the state of the local country affiliate and uncover opportunities for growth
- As a people manager within the organization, may have financial accountabilities and human resource responsibilities for assigned staff.
- Lead Vertex's affiliate in Country with overall responsibility for the multiple franchises, managing combined local business planning, cross-functional leadership, resource allocation and direct management of the commercial organization including sales, marketing, and market access in the different disease areas in the country.
- Drive revenue growth for the CF and other disease area(s) franchise(s) and manage overall Country P&L
- Have a deep understanding of the reimbursement mechanisms for the different disease areas we have presence in Country and secure/maintain access to Vertex's medicines in line with company expectations

- Experience in leading and growing successful commercial and cross-functional teams in a global, matrix organization
- Experience in a formal country leadership position executing at a similar level in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industries
- Experience working with global teams in different functions, showcasing a track record of breadth in exposure and perspective
- Experience with building and maintaining strong relationships with government stakeholders, payors, policymakers, agencies and patient associations, i.e. complex reimbursement processes and discussions
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in relevant discipline
- Typically requires significant, relevant experience and extensive supervisory/management experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience
