Position Summary

Due to significant growth in the business related to the use of low‑carbon energies, ERM invites an enthusiastic consultant to join our low‑carbon solutions team in Paris. The individual will directly support the delivery of decarbonisation roadmaps, energy infrastructure planning, energy markets analysis and strategy advisory assignments for corporates or investors. Work ranges from building financial and economic models, providing advice on the future role of low‑carbon energies, shaping energy policies, analysing economic aspects, helping fund projects, and supporting implementation of corporate, site and project level responses to energy transition.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluation of carbon mitigation options;
  • Techno‑economic analysis of different energy options;
  • Analysis of the impacts of new energy regulations and policies;
  • Technology assessment;
  • Project finance modelling;
  • Collaboration with other ERM practitioners to analyse energy projects, including participation on teams comprised of climate change and energy professionals from multiple offices.
  • Help clients understand the business risks and opportunities associated with low‑carbon energies.

Qualifications

  • Degree in energy engineering, business, economy or other relevant disciplines; Master’s or PhD is plus.
  • Familiarity with energy sector policy, regulation and the commercial landscape; industry experience within a commercial or consulting role highly regarded.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills in English language.

Sought‑after Skills

  • Low‑carbon sector coverage: low‑carbon energy literacy (e.g. hydrogen, CCUS, industry decarbonization, low‑carbon transport, energy networks) and connection into coherent transition pathways.
  • Ability to translate technology/market trends into strategic insights and roadmaps for clients.
  • Energy sector markets analysis: understanding of energy market fundamentals, low‑carbon technology status, future development, impacts of regulation and policy on markets.
  • Techno‑economic and scenario modelling: experience in techno‑economic modelling (business cases, sensitivities, scenarios) with strong quantitative skills, ability to defend assumptions, model levelised costs, total cost of ownership; energy demand/load forecasting.
  • Policy, regulation & market design: policy/regulatory analysis; ability to advise on implications for corporate strategy and investment.
  • Tooling: Excel modelling plus Python (or equivalent) for analytics, automation, scenario calculations; ability to produce auditable models and clear outputs.
  • Corporate strategy: understanding of fundamentals of corporate strategy and analytical frameworks; experience in business model assessment, entry‑to‑market/go‑to‑market strategies.
  • Energy modelling and techno‑economic analysis: building bottom‑up cost estimates, asset valuation (IRR, NPV), LCOE/LCOH pricing models, sensitivity analysis.
  • Keen interest in energy transition trends and drivers; strong interest in these topics, transferable skills, quick learner.
