Compliance Officer
About Wello:
Wello is a Web3-enabled fintech company on a mission to redefine global payments and remittances. By combining self-custody wallets, compliant fiat ramps, and stablecoin-based infrastructure, we’re building a faster, cheaper, and more inclusive way to move money across borders. As we expand into the Europe, our French entity will serve as a strategic hub for regional operations and regulatory licensing.
Position Overview
Wello is seeking an experienced Compliance Officer (Responsable de la Conformité et du Contrôle Interne – RCCI) to oversee and further develop our compliance and governance framework in line with MiCA, AMF, and ACPR requirements. This role ensures that Wello maintains robust internal controls, fulfills all regulatory obligations, and embeds a culture of compliance, ethics, and transparency throughout the organization.
The ideal candidate will act as the key point of contact for the AMF and ACPR, coordinate regulatory filings, oversee MiCA compliance reporting, and support the business in maintaining the highest standards of conduct and operational integrity.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain Wello’s MiCA compliance framework, ensuring adherence to the AMF and ACPR requirements for registered/licensed CASPs.
- Supervise internal policies and procedures governing customer due diligence, safeguarding of clients’ crypto-assets and funds, operational resilience, conflicts of interest, and complaint handling.
- Monitor and assess regulatory developments under MiCA, AMLD6, and other relevant EU and French laws; advise management on strategic and operational impacts.
- Coordinate regulatory interactions with the AMF and ACPR, including audits, inspections, and periodic reporting (e.g., safeguarding attestations, complaints, and prudential disclosures).
- Conduct regular compliance risk assessments and ensure findings are escalated to senior management and the Board with clear mitigation plans.
- Collaborate closely with the AML/CFT Officer (RCP/MLRO) to ensure an integrated approach to AML, counter-terrorist financing, and sanctions compliance in accordance with EU and French frameworks.
- Oversee training programs to promote a strong compliance culture and ensure ongoing staff awareness of MiCA, AML/CFT, and conduct-of-business obligations.
- Ensure implementation of the three lines of defense model, defining clear roles and accountability for compliance oversight, operational controls, and internal audit.
- Review marketing and promotional materials to ensure compliance with AMF standards on fair, clear, and non-misleading communications.
- Support incident management and reporting, including breaches, complaints, or operational incidents that may impact client assets or regulatory obligations.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Law, Finance, Compliance, or related field; additional professional certifications such as CAMS, ICA, or AMF RCCI certification are highly valued.
- Minimum 7–10 years of experience in compliance, legal, or regulatory functions within the EU financial services or virtual asset sector.
- In-depth understanding of MiCA, AMLD5/6, FATF recommendations, and French financial services law, including AMF and ACPR expectations.
- Proven experience in regulatory reporting, internal controls, and policy implementation within a regulated fintech, payments, or crypto-asset firm.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills; capable of translating regulatory requirements into practical, business-aligned solutions.
- High ethical standards, sound judgment, and professional discretion.
- Fluency in English and French (written and spoken) is required.
