  • This position has a temporary nature and carries, in principle, no expectation of renewal. Any potential subsequent extension will be subject to the terms of the Organization’s Staff Manual, to satisfactory performance and to availability of funds.

Tests/interviews in connection to this selection procedure will take place approximately 3‑4 weeks after the deadline for applications. Applicants are asked to plan their availability during this period accordingly, in case they are shortlisted.

Selected candidates will be expected to report for duty approximately two to three months after receiving an offer of employment at the latest.

This selection exercise may be used to generate a reserve list of suitable candidates that may be used to address the Organization's similar staffing needs in the future.

Introduction of Post

Under the general supervision of the INTERPOL Data Protection Officer (IDPO) and direct supervision of Counsel – data protection, the incumbent will participate in the implementation of the mandate of the IDPO. As part of the Data Protection Office, this entails assistance in tasks relating to data processing compliance control, advising in particular regarding new data processing operations likely to result in high risks for the rights and freedoms of individuals, especially in the process of data protection impact assessments, awareness‑raising activities and data protection training.

Principal Duties

  • Participate in the implementation of the IDPO’s action plan of the Decision for the processing of data for administrative purposes (DPA), including reviewing registers of data processing, conducting gap analysis, drafting and reviewing standard operating procedures and privacy policies, and providing general guidance on the implementation of the DPA to all units of the General Secretariat.
  • Contribute to compliance control activities such as data protection audits and compliance checks, identify and assess data protection risks, and recommend mitigation measures. Liaise with and provide advice on data processing issues upon request from other departments and ensure follow‑up of advice and recommendations made, including liaising with external entities.
  • Develop and/or review technical and organisational implementation measures to ensure compliance with INTERPOL’s framework on data protection, and develop data protection training modules and conduct trainings.
  • Participate in the daily tasks of the Data Protection Office and perform any duty as required by the IDPO and Counsel – data protection.

Qualifications, Competencies and Skills

Education and Qualification Required

  • A university degree in law with a strong emphasis on ICT law (Information and Communication Technology Law) is preferred.

Experience Required

  • At least three years of professional experience in the field of data protection.
  • Experience in implementing and reviewing legal, technical, organisational measures and procedures to ensure data protection compliance in practice.
  • Very preferably experience in data protection risk management.

Languages

  • Fluency in English.
  • Knowledge of another working language could be an additional asset (French, Spanish, Arabic).

Abilities Required

  • Strong interest in information management, data science, ICT in general.
  • Interpersonal and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work in teams as well as individually.
  • Proven ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Strong communication skills in both written and oral form.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to prioritisation.
