Cloud FinOps Lead

Overview

AXA XL Global Technology (GT) division is undergoing significant transformation, simplifying applications landscape, migrating to strategic cloud platforms, and reshaping operating models to support evolving technologies and business processes. In France, the Cloud Transformation team is focused on optimizing cloud spend, governance, and cost management across the organization.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop FinOps frameworks, including policies, processes, and best practices for effective cloud financial management aligned with organizational goals.
• Collaborate with cloud engineers, DevOps, finance, and procurement teams to integrate FinOps principles and promote responsible cloud usage.
• Create financial dashboards and provide insights and forecasts to senior stakeholders, fostering a culture of cloud financial responsibility through training.
• Manage Azure cloud service budgets, participate in CSP negotiations via Procurement, and conduct regular FinOps maturity assessments to drive continuous improvement.
• Report on accuracy, policy compliance, and initiatives to enhance cloud financial management, building data‑driven reporting to identify cost‑saving opportunities, optimize resources, and track utilization.
• Define and communicate governance and ownership across teams (application development, architecture, finance, management, business) to optimize synergies and encourage joint goals.
• Maintain the Azure cloud business case to ensure cost forecasts are updated for the IT estate over the migration period (2023‑2026), including:
  • Periodic refresh of the business case as actuals evolve.
  • Maintain average cost profiles of migrating applications and update forecasts.
  • Assist with yearly budget process to align budget requests with forecasts.
• Engage with AXA Group’s FinOps community, share learnings, and produce quarterly reporting required by the Group.
• Understand cloud provider pricing models to give recommendations on cost savings and support technical optimisations such as right‑sizing.
• Calculate cloud costs and set budgets for applications; monitor actual spend against budgets, manage project recharge processes, and raise alerts if spend exceeds agreed limits.
• Reconcile monthly invoicing to CSP usage, ensuring service credits and committed spend are tracked.
• Implement budget and alert framework for threshold spikes or anomalies to take preventative action.

Qualifications

• Certified FinOps professional with a preference for finance background (e.g., FinOps Certified Practitioner, Cost Management & Finance Qualifications).
• Proven ability to conduct sophisticated data analysis and translate results into actionable deliverables for technical, finance, and senior management audiences.
• Strong financial and analytical skills, ideally with experience in cloud service consumption modeling tools in large-scale IT environments.
• Excellent verbal and written communication, leadership skills, and a track record of presenting to senior management.
• Good understanding of cloud computing technologies; Azure Fundamentals (AZ‑900) beneficial. Deep experience of Microsoft Power BI and Excel required.
