Cloud Application Architect

Role Overview

As an Application Architect within Avanade's Global Azure Center of Excellence you will translate clients' business strategies into cloud‑native solutions, guide delivery teams across complex projects, and drive technical excellence.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with market‑facing teams and clients to create software architecture blueprints and implementation roadmaps for strategic opportunities.
• Support delivery teams on complex engagements, providing ongoing architecture design and interfacing with business stakeholders.
• Create and evangelize reference implementations for complex components in large‑scale, distributed systems.
• Contribute to Avanade’s thought leadership by evolving the firm’s perspective on Software Architecture.
• Establish and maintain relationships with technical leaders and influencers at key client organizations.
• Lead solution planning and design efforts across teams and workstreams to shape client vision and deliver value.
• Travel may be required for critical face‑to‑face interactions; overall travel should be less than 50% of the time.

Qualifications

• Experience developing and architecting custom applications with cloud‑native patterns such as microservices, event‑driven architecture, publish/subscribe, and gateway, API‑first approaches.
• Proficiency with Java, Spring Boot, Spring, Hibernate, and related technologies.
• Knowledge of serverless computing, PaaS, containerization, and orchestration (Kubernetes, Docker). Demonstrated ability to rationalize and apply these patterns in an enterprise setting.
• Hands‑on experience with at least one major cloud platform (Azure, AWS, GCP, Pivotal) and familiarity with identity & access management (OAuth, SAML).
• Experience with big data and AI/ML solutions is highly desirable.
• Strong solution design and delivery experience, ideally with a consulting background, including architectural design sessions, proofs of concept, and multi‑year cloud transformation programs.
• Ability to lead technical architecture discussions with stakeholders ranging from engineering teams to senior client executives.
• Developer/Architect or architecture certifications (e.g., TOGAF) are highly desirable.
• Capacity to write and review code using appropriate design patterns and to mentor other developers.
